oh there are definitely bad pinot noirs so many that I tend to shy away from them.
A genuine (complete with sticker on the label) chianti classico is always a good bet for a fruity/ smooth red....
Also, a white burgundy (Appellation d'origine contrôlée from the region of burgundy) is usually a nice crisp white wine...
also, a good german riesling can be tasty. make sure to get halbtrocken (semi-dry) to trocken (dry), since you likely want to avoid rieslings that are sweet dessert wines. the highest quality german wines say 'qualitat mit pradikat' on the label.
