3 months down the drain
and I have been crying all day. Watching TV shows with people in jail that are having babies, in line behind a lady and a newborn at the supermarket, and going to Old Navy and looking though the clearance rack the one pair of pants that catch my eye happen to be maternity....I got AF today.
Is this normal? What is the normal amount of time it takes to get pregnant if you assume you have no problems? My doc said to come see her if we do not get anywhere in 6 months. I guess I have to see her in 3 months...I know most tests are not done until you have been trying at least a year?

I'm sorry AF showed up.
I think 3 months is definately normal. I'm not sure if there is an exact normal range though. The doctors will also gage when you need testing by your age

Re: 3 months down the drain
This is completely normal. Please don't stress yourself out. the normal range for people under the age of 35 is 1 year. After that is when they start to test for IF. Over the age of 35 it is six months. Most women it takes a few months, especially if you just came off bc. Stress can also throw everything out of wack. Just relax and enjoy the process of trying to make a baby!

Re: 3 months down the drain
I'm 30 also. I just saw my GYN and we happen to be TTC for 6 months. He said it takes the average healthy couple 6-8 months to get PG. He gave me the number to a RE but I told him I wanted to try for a couple more months.

Re: 3 months down the drain
I'm 28 and my Dr told me a year!! I don't think I can make it a year! I just met a woman who is 30 and she just got preg after 6 months of trying. She had no medical problems what so ever. I am just like you and stressing myself out like crazy and she told me not to stress and calm down, and as annoying as it sounds, it was nice to hear it from someone that just went through it, she said she was just like me, she happened to start speaking to me the day AF arrived, so I was a mess that day to say the least...and she said she went through the same exact thing and said the month that she went away on vaca and tried not to think about it, she got Preggers... I usually hate when people say just relax and I want to strangle them.

Re: 3 months down the drain
Thank you ladies so much. It's nice to hear all of your stories. I appreciate you sharing them!
Now if this is normal, are the people that concieve in 1, 2 or 3 months abnormal!?
I just keep thinking if only I had known years ago how hard this was......

Re: 3 months down the drain
Have you tried charting? By charting your temps, CM, and using OPKs you can get an idea of what your cycles are truly doing.
It's time consuming, but an amazing way to get in tune with what your body is doing and to greatly increase your chances of conceiving. Also- if there IS a problem (annovulatory cycles, short luteal phase) you'll be able to figure that out by looking at your chart.
I know it seems like the past 3 months were a waste- but it will make that BFP even more exciting once you get it.

ITA with Amy. Are you doing everything you can? Second I have been told by a specialist that if you are reasonably young, ovulate every month and have normal cycles you should be pregnant within 6 months.
You guys, the year advice is from insurance companies who do not want to pay out infertility benefits unless they absolutely have to. Now do some people get PG in month 7, 8, 9 10 etc...yes! But I, personally would see a Dr after 6 mos.

Re: 3 months down the drain
I think three months is normal. I know it's still hard to be patient ad wait whether it's "normal" or not.
Here's some extra for next month!

Re: 3 months down the drain
I have to agree with melijane. For piece of mind, i decided to go to an RE. I had been charting for six month and actively TTC for four months. I used OPK's, had perfect timing and o'd every month. I knew something was wrong, or if it wasn't I needed to be reassured. Well I basically told them my husband had cancer when he was younger and that his sperm count was low. Actually his sperm count was normal, but I needed to get in. I also told them I was TTC for six months. Well long story short, one of my tubes is completely blocked, which means I really only have been trying for half of the time. I now have a plan of action that will take place next March unless I get preggo by then. Don't wait, if you know you are truly doing everything possible and don't see results in four to six months go see someone. Lie if you have to, but put your mind to rest.

I skipped by OBGYN. I called my insurance company and asked if I needed to get a referral - I did not need one. Personally if you can skip the OB, I would, their main job is to take care of a pregnancy, not getting someone pregnant, but if you have a cool doctor start there. If you happy with what they say - fine, if not see and RE.

Re: 3 months down the drain
I definitely agree with the whole year thing is way too long. When my dr told me that I thought my eyes were going to fall out of my head.... I thankfully don't need referrals, and I think after 6 mos I will definitely call a RE, and tell them I've been trying for a year if they give me any problems..I agree, an OBGYN is for a pregnancy not getting someone Pregnant...Good luck!!

Re: 3 months down the drain
I am 29 and have been TTC for 10 months now. At the 6 month mark we went for physicals and spoke to our primary care dr. She sent DH for a SA and we found out that we had an issue. Try not to get too crazy because stressing over it just makes things worse. It's only been 3 months and it does on average take 6 months but also like previous posters said now is the time to make sure you are ovulating regularly, by charting, purchasing a monitor or using OPKs. When you go into your Dr. you want to be armed with info otherwise you'll have to start charting then and that will set you back a few more months. Good Luck.

Re: 3 months down the drain
Thanks so much everyone It's so true that the obgyn helps you once you are pg, does not help you get pg. RE is a reproductive endocrinologist??? I will look one up through my insurance company and make an appt in 3 months if we have not been blessed by then.

Re: 3 months down the drain
It took me over a year to conceive my son, and I had no health issues or problems. Some of us just take a bit more time is all
