Can anyone give me shopping advice re: navigation system
I want to get one for DH for xmas but I have no idea which model to buy. I've been told that Garmin is one of the better brands and Magellan also, but there are so many models how do I know which model I need. Help! Which one do you have and what does yours do or not do? TIA!

We just bought the Magellan 3200. It's pretty new to the market. We bought it this week in sale at Best Buy for $169. We used it today to see what it was like and overall, I was really happy and impressed with it.

Re: Can anyone give me shopping advice re: navigation system
I got the Garmin Nuvi 760 yesterday.
I've tested it out to get me to Publix and LOVE LOVE LOVE it.
The greatest feature it has that others dont is Text-to-speech which means it tells you the name of the street, when to turn, and in what direction. I loved that it said "right turn on Toledo Blade" It also has a Wireless FM transmitter This allows you to listen to audio, including voice prompts, MP3s and audio books through your vehicle's stereo
The 760 has hands-free calling bluetooth technology. I havent tried that yet.
So far I am totally in love

If you are a member of BJs there is this booklet of coupons they were handing out - wow! The deals they have seem really good...
Garmin Nuvi 680 for $599 (normally $699 - they take $100 off w/ the coupon)
Magellan Maestro 3100 for $149 marked down from $239
I don't know much about them but this is what it says in this booklet - HTH!

The biggest price difference is the TTS that HarleyGirlFLA mentioned. I think it's a great feature, since most people know how to read names of streets, but don't always know how far 500 feet is.
The BlueTooth is handy, and I've used it, but definitely not mandatory. As long as you have another way of hands-free phone use, you don't need it.
The Garmin c550 has real-time traffic, which is really handy. Shows you where the traffic is, what is causing it, how long the delay will be, and lets you route around it.

The 760 has it too I think you have to pay for it and it's only for certain cities. It did come with a 3 month trial subscription which I think is great b/c I can test out of it works in my area or where I am traveling.
