Anybody use Travertine in their bathroom(s)?
Did you use Honed/Filled or Tumbled/Unfilled on the floor and in the shower?

I think I misread your question. I thought you wanted to know if anyone used Travertine or tumbled marble.
I didn't use Travertine, just regular tumbled marble.

How's the maintenance/cleaning? Do you find that the "craters" cause problems?

The guys are dry-walling the master bedroom and bath as I type!
Our bedroom and bathroom won't be as impressive as yours! It's a fraction of the size. We're really limited from a design and options standpoint b/c the bathroom is tiny for a master bath.
The long-term plan is to build a 2nd level with a master suite and eventually make the master bedroom a tv room/guest room...that's if we don't move.

You sound like me. We are in the never ending home remodel/addition. And to top it all off, I continue looking at real estate , just in case!

I think the cleanup is easier but Im going to be honest and tell you that I use this bathroom rarely. We have a small MB in our bedroom that we use more.
Its also very new..we just moved in a month ago. I just love the look.
This is the best one I have on here

Re: Anybody use Travertine in their bathroom(s)?
The only pain in the arse with any type of porous stone in the shower is that it has to be sealed at least every six months. Some tile people say seal it once and your done, but the more people I speak to, it's best to do it every six months.
But sealing is not that big of a deal, especially because I don't do it

Re: Anybody use Travertine in their bathroom(s)?
I have travertine in my kitchen and its lovely, however imo (and I am not a clean freak by any stretch of the imagination) all the craters in the bathroom are a breeding ground for bacteria. You can't use any cleaners on the Travertine (you can use a specialist cleaner) but you are best off using water alone (even if your tiles are treated)
My friend has her kitchen floor done in the filled travertine and the filling keeps coming out, her marble giuy has been over many times to do a refill.

I've been researching it for a while (from when we started looking into materials for our patio) and one guy who seems to really know his stuff recommends not sealing travertine. (I don't know what he recommends for marble though.)
My big concern is cleaning products since most will damage/stain the stone.

Re: Anybody use Travertine in their bathroom(s)?
I thought travertine was marble, and extremely porous one? Shows you how much I know .
Tumbled marble is porous, but not as porous as marble.
If you use an invisible sealer, it should not change the look of the stone whatsoever.
If you don't seal the travertine, then I would be very worried about what the above poster said, the porous areas becoming a breeding ground for bacteria, because it will be located in the shower.
I can understand not sealing it if it's a decorative backsplash that won't be soaked with water/soap on a daily basis.
But then again, I'm def. no expert...I thought travertine was a marble!

The color of sealed Travertine is much richer than unsealed. It really enhances the stone.

Re: Anybody use Travertine in their bathroom(s)?
From what I've read, travertine isn't very porous at all...in fact it's one of the least porous, that's why we chose it for our back patio. Look at all the structures in Italy...they're made with travertine, not marble and so far they're holding up pretty good.

Re: Anybody use Travertine in their bathroom(s)?
I have it in my kitchen as my back splash and you have to seal it every 6mts.. Ronnie does it when he does the granite in the kitchens and bathroom..
I clean it with either lemon and water or white vinegar and a brush..
The tiles are like sponges.. and I got windex on one and it was RUINED, Ronnie had to rip like 8 down to fix it :(
kathy I LOVEEEEEEEEEE your chandlier.. GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
