Oh the bleeding...
When I went to cut Yogi's nails today, one of them just broke off!!!! It was the strangest thing. Then he started bleeding all over the place!! I called the emergency vet and they said to put flour on it and apply pressure. DH and I did that and sat with him all afternoon. It finally stopped almost and hour later! We feel so bad for him, but he seems to be okay now. Running around as usual!!!

Re: Oh the bleeding...
Is he a German Shorthair Pointer? He is beautiful!!
BTW, don't worry too much - Misty broke hers off sideways a few weeks ago and it's just starting to come in.
But I had to spend $150 at the emergency vet cuz I was afraid to break it off.

Re: Oh the bleeding...
I did the same to my baby (not furbaby, baby girl in my pic) --- 45 minutes of holding her tiny finger!! She looked like she had taken a blood bath!!

Re: Oh the bleeding...
I did this to my Pug, had to take her to the vet because we couldn't get her to keep still. They said if it happens again press a bar of soap. I never cut her nails myself after that.

YES! He is a pointer. He is a great dog but he has LOTS of energy.
I ended up taking him to the emergency vet this morning because it started bleeding again. $130 later, they wrapped it up and he good to go. It is not infected but they wrapped it so that he didn't keep licking it. He doesn't seem to be bothered by the wrap around his paw. My poor bugger!

We have a Weimie so I know what you mean about the energy!!! That's exactly what the emergency vet did for us...they cut off the hanging part and wrapped it, for the same reasons. He said the licking can make it start to bleed again. Our house looked like a crime scene when she came back from her run the day she ripped it.
