My doctor has upped my dose of metformin from 3 times a day to 4 times a day (2000mg)(all at once). I didn't have a problem while taking it 3 times a day. But 4 times a day is killing my stomach. I just started taking the upped dosage and I have major diarrhea, I know TMI!!! I have to go for my ultrasound tomorrow too. I don't know how I'm gonna get through that with my stomach like this! LOL!! Any of you ladies taking metformin 4 times a day? Is it bothering your stomach? Please help! I'm not dealing with diarrhea like this! Thanks in advance!

When I went to first see the RE I was on 1500mg/day (still am). It wasn't working, but I told him that my stomach couldn't handle taking any more, I have hard enough a time on 1500mg. He told me it wasn't necessary to increase the dosage, that I was taking enough. I don't remember, are you seeing an RE? Are you taking clomid in conjunction with the met?
Honestly, I would tell your doctor that the 2000mg is too much for you and to provide you with other options. I heard People who take the met for diabetes only take 500mg/day! So us PCOS ladies are taking well over the dosage!

In the beginning, I had diarrehea but then my body got used to it. When do you take your meds? Have you considered taking them in the evenings? I used to take them in evenings. In the morning, i was ready to poop
I no longer take them b/c it is not my new doctor's protocol. I am not insulin resistant.

I take them in the evenings with dinner. I tried taking them without food, and it gave me really bad stomach pains. I just had more bloodwork, and I'm definitely insulin resistant. My dr said they like the insulin range to be at 10, and I'm almost 26 , She(dr assistant) went over the ultrasound results with me and both ovaries are enlarged, from the pcos, that's why i'm in so much pain.My Dr wants to schedule another lap surgery. I had it done back in 2005 by another dr, so let's see what my dr finds when he does it. Last time they found scar tissue, which when my new dr got my results from my old dr, he couldn't understand how i had scar tissue if my old dr didn't find any endometriosis or anything. I have a follow up appt with my actual dr on Wednesday. But my dr's assistant is hopeful that I will get pregnant as soon as they get the pcos and insulin under control

Wow. Sorry your stomach isn't responding well. I'd definately talk with the dr. My Dr would only go to 1500 per day, so every dr is different. Hope you feel better soon!
