Anyone have a problem with The Place furniture? Do I have any recourse?
I purchased an expensive sectional sofa there last year. The couch is barely 1 1/2 yrs. old. The entire couch is balled (looks like an old sweater) and the seams are ripping on all the cushions. It really looks like it is 10 yrs. old. I feel like this should NOT be happening. We were told that we had a 10 yr. warranty on the fabric on the cushions should we have any problems when we bought it. Called the Place today and of course they say it only covers stains. They directed me to another company who actually handles the warranty's. They told me to call The Place back that the problems I am having are manufacturing defects and it should not be happening after barely a year.
So what do you think my chances are of getting my couch replaced?

Read the warranty that you bought, I am sure they list exactly what they cover. they shouldn't be telling you to call the store back. Unfortunately, most manufacturers defects are only covered for a short time, thats the only reason I buy an extra warranty.
If no one wants to cover it, I would take the store to small claims court, its a minimil fee to file, and I bet they offer something before you even get to court.

I would suggest that you file a complaint on the better business bureau website before you go the small claims route.

It's like just about anything else in this country now... It's made somewhere else with cheap labor and materials then sold for a high price. Warranty? Who honors that anymore? Once you get it your on your own there is always an excuse for it not to be covered... Thank corporate America for manufacturing overseas because of the high cost of U.S. labor it's a lie! They make it cheaper and sell it higher so they can fill their pockets....
Sorry for the rant...

We bought a couch, loveseat, and ottoman microfiber suede set from them over the summer and haven't had any problems. But, what I would do, is if you're not getting anywhere, go there in person. Sometimes they are more willing to listen to you and not just tell you to call somewhere else, if you are complaining with potential customers in ear shot. It's worth a try and couldn't hurt.
I know from what my mom has dealt with over the years with various furniture companies that you have to be super aggressive to get what you want. Good luck.

Re: Anyone have a problem with The Place furniture? Do I have any recourse?
I have the same problem with my couch and loveseat but I got it at JC Penney. I hate them with a passion. We only have them for less than a year and a half and they look so old. Not from far away but when you sit on it, it has tons of pills, like you said, like an old sweater. It's chenille. We got the extended warranty which covers so many things include in home repairs to the material. However one thing that is excluded is pilling. I swear, I hate these couches - I love the color and style but the material really s*cks. They got pilly right away too, under a year. If it was up to me, I'd throw them out tomorrow and get something new. I even shaved the pills off one time even though I know it probably degrades the material further but of course they're back. I secretly hope my cat or kids pee on them one day and we have to get something new.
I'm not help with your problem but I just wanted to share that I have the same pilling issue.
