I need advice
I have been ttc for 7 months dh had a sa last month and he is good. My doctor said I should wait til we are ttc for one year til I get checked out. Since luckily I have no history of anything and I my period is regular and I ovulate every month but I dont want to waste time. My sister has PCos and a hormonal imbalance but she says that I would know if I had that too. Should I wait or see an RE? Thannx in advance for your advice

Re: I need advice
The whole wait a yr thing is BS IMO. I say go now. Follow your instinct.

Re: I need advice
so I called Dr. Chu an RE today and the secretary said that unless I have been trying a year that I should be not think about it cause she said that affects it-God I am so sick of hearing that- If I would have gotten pg when most women do "RIght Away" maybe I wouldnt be such a nutcase worrier but here I am and she said that any tests to check my hormones and for pcos can be done by my gyno so I have an apt with her next wed. I am having a rough day- I am in beg of my 7th tww I dont feel any different and I feel very sad.

Well i personally wouldn't listen to the secretary! I say demand more testing and talk to the doctor about it!

Re: I need advice
How old are you? I'm 32 and I've been off the pill since January, really trying since June. I had a gut instinct that something was wrong, so instead of consulting with my ob/gyn, I went straight to an RE. She agreed with me that the time it's taking is circumspect considering I got pregnant so quickly with my first, and has already ordered a battery of tests.
The most important thing is to trust your instincts, and to find a doctor who is in line with your perspective. If you're under 30, it really IS normal to take upwards of a year to get pregnant. If you're over 30, many doctors will start testing after 6 months of TTC, it's just a question of finding the right doctor.

Re: I need advice
Thank you for writing me. I am 28 and so is dh that is probably why my gyno said to wait a year . I have never been pg before. I went off my bcp in October 2006 after about 6 years. I worried that something was wrong with dh and he is fine so I dont know if my istinct is on target or I am just worrying. Even though my sister has Pcos and a hormonal imbalance. I dont think I have that too bc she wasnt getting her period for like six months and she had signs of pcos. I dont have any of that. I appreciate your help

Re: I need advice
Many gynos will tell you to wait a year because most insurance companies will not consider you "infertile," and therefore will not pay for treatment, until you have been trying for a year with no BFP. However, if you have a diagnosis like PCOS, endometriosis, etc., you are already "infertile" in the insurance company's eyes and they will start paying for treatment right away.
That said, I don't agree that diagnostic testing should wait until the one year mark. If something is wrong, then you spend all that time waiting until the one year mark, then get tested, then have to start treatment that you could have been getting all along. If nothing shows up wrong, then you can wait till the one year mark for insurance purposes, if that's what your insurance wants.
Good luck -
