Are you "quick"?
I have never been the type of person who is "quick" with jokes, comebacks or making fun of someone... Even in meetings, when things come up, I have to take a minute to think about the answer or to remember a rule, law, guideline, etc. But lately it seems much worse.
My co-workers often ask status questions about dollar amounts and other specifics that I really need a report in front of me to speak of. I don't remember things off the top of my head like that unless I literally make a conscious effort to memorize them.
I am also horrible w/ names and faces and feel like I constantly look stupid... I can't remember anything anymore... and I feel like it takes me so long in comparison to my coworkers to grasp things.
Does anyone else feel like this? I don't know - maybe I have early onset dementia or alzheimers? Is that possible?

Re: Are you "quick"?
Maybe it just needs to be posted in a forum.... Have a forum like this at work, and everybody has to discuss work things there....

Re: Are you "quick"?
Some things I'm very quick with, I have a great memory for certain things like important dates and random trivia stuff. Other things I have a hard time remembering, with certain people's names I just have a mental block.

It depends on what it is pretaining to. Work related issues, I could rattle off addresses & numbers in my sleep.
Names, I am usually pretty good with them along with birthdays...I remember the stupidest dates & my mom is constantly calling me to ask if she has birthdays/anniversaries right.
Jokes & comebacks, I am not so quick & it takes me moments to come up with something....

OMG I was just talking to someone about this! I feel like I'm losing it. I can't remember things nor can I present my ideas in an intelligent way quickly anymore. I really need to think things through before I speak (which is maybe a good thing too haha). You're not alone!

Re: Are you "quick"?
I am never quick with a good comeback. They guys at work are always joking with one another, zipping one-liners back and forth. I just watch from the sidelines, because I can never think of anything witty and quick to say.
As for numbers and names, I have to make a concientious effort to remember. I deal with numbers for a living, and I have to remember those. So names always fall off my radar.

This is how I am. In general I have a good memory with most things. and I always have the perfect comeback about 5 minutes after the moment has passed.

Re: Are you "quick"?
I feel the same way! I work on so many projects that I can't keep the details straight on them and need them in front of me. My boss will come in and ask me how many linear feet of road we have on such and such a project or how many lots did we get on this...
I have to tell him I'll check and get back to him - there is guy in the office who can remember all of that stuff, I feel like I should take all my plans home to study then, LOL

It depends. I'm really good with numbers and things of that nature. But with names, I'm horrible.
Don't get down on yourself. Im sure you're no different then the rest of us.

Re: Are you "quick"?
I know what you mean...I feel like I used to be a lot more on top of things and quick to remember HR law, benefits info, etc...and now it takes me a minute like I am in slow motion Maybe I am just getting older...I was actually thinking of buying some ginko biloba, supposedly helps with memory and alertness I think.

Re: Are you "quick"?
I usually am quick with a comment, but I definitely have times when I look back on things and wish I had said something much more clever.

Re: Are you "quick"?
Yes. I'm quick.
I got a little slower for a while after DS was born, but now I'm almost back to full speed.
I need to have a million things going on to function best.
