Re: baby in the room?
When I had my DS, he was in the room the whole time, but if I wanted to send him to the nursery I could-like when I took a shower. He stayed in the room for visiting hours. I never even though about sending him to the nursery.

Re: baby in the room?
North shore plainview, it was up to me when i wanted baby. The only time she was in Nursery was after 10pm then she was brought to me for feedings then taken back to nursery.
My SIL was at stoneybrook and i think she had the baby the whole time

Re: baby in the room?
NSUH recommends it but will take the baby back if you prefer, which I believe I will. IMO you are in the hospital to recover, which means sleep. I don't think there's any hospital that would make you keep the baby in the room if you weren't comfortable or happy with it.

I delivered my DD at St. Charles. She was in my room most of the day. She went back to the Nursery during the evening visiting hour and at night. They brought her back to me in the morning
ok good! i dont want her in the room during visiting hours...thank you!
Really? I loved that my visitors could hold the baby. I of course made them all wash their hands first and sick people weren't allowed.
ETA: I delivered at SB and could have kept the baby in the room with me all night. I opted to send her to the nursery though so I could try to get some sleep. She was with me the rest of the time other than when she had her hearing tested or the ped. needed to see her.

Re: baby in the room?
I just delivered at St. Charles. During the afternoon visiting hours (2-4pm) you can have the baby in the room. These visiting hours are for grandparents and siblings only. During the general visiting hours (7-8pm) the babies are required to be in the nursery. This is for the safety of the babies because anybody can come to visit during this time, whether you want them or not.
NICU is different though. They remain in there and only a certain few are allowed to even view the baby. But I pray your baby is not in NICU!

Re: baby in the room?
I delivered at Stony Brook. My baby was in the NICU, so he was never in my room at all. . Stony Brook encourages moms to have babies stay with them but I noticed that many of the moms on my floor did not have the babies with them a lot. Even if I were able to have the baby in the room with me, I would not have wanted him there during visiting hours. For those who do not have baby experience, the nurses will come to the room and help.

Re: baby in the room?
I would want the baby in the room during regular visiting hours as well. If I was ever sick when I went to see a baby, I would stay away. But from what waterspout said, doesn't look like I have a choice. Maybe I can get some people up during grandparents hours.

The baby will def not be in the room during visiting hours. My sister had two kids there and my cousin's wife just delivered there last dec and the baby is in the nursery during general visiting hours.

Re: baby in the room?
I never ever thought of NOT having the baby in the room with me during visiting hours...I come from such a big family and visiting and seeing the bambino in the hospital is practically tradition....
I guess i just don't worry much. He was perfectly fine. I LOVED that my mom and sisters and friends held him and saw us together there..
