can I just refer myself to an RE?

This could be the stupidist question...but I know I have PCOS, I know I'm over 35, I know I've been off the pill for over a year...can I just make an appt. with an RE and by-pass my regular gyn?

thanks!

I did...I just looked for one that my insurance covers and a friend recommended. In some caes, yes an ob would refer you; however, if you are confident you need assistance that goes beyond the scope of an ob, I would just go for it. good luck. And it is NOT a stupid question.

I went straight to an RE. They specialize in getting you pregnant, my OB is great but I wanted to go to a specialist.

It's not neccessary to have a referral to see a RE; however, your insurance might require you to get a referral from your OBGYN before seeing a RE. I would check with your policy to make sure they are going to cover the costs.

I agree with this. Most insurance companies are okay with you going straight to an RE, but some need a referral. Call your insurance company and see what their policy is.

Good luck.

Find out if you need a referral before you go for your appointment. I didn't realize I needed a referral until my RE appointment and they told me that I had to get a referral within 24 hours of the appointment. TG my GYN was able to call it in the next day although she did tell me that they "appreciate" a week to process a referral.
