Winterizing CAC?
Is there anything you are supposed to do to winterize your CAC unit? Ours is outside, and we weren't sure if we should cover it with plastic or if there is anything else to do with it.

You also need to flick the vent switches in the house or else you will get a draft

same here. We were told not to cover it bc the moisture will remain inside the unit & you could possibly have problems later on....

Re: Winterizing CAC?
We don't do anything. One of the sales reps told us to cover it with a piece of plywood on top to keep leaves and junk out of it, but there's a danger in that if you turn the system on the forget to take the cover off, you could kill your compressor.
So, we don't do anything with it.

Re: Winterizing CAC?
Thanks! It sounds as if we just shouldn't cover it. We will flip the switch though--think I know where that is located.

Re: Winterizing CAC?
there are special AC unit covers that let the moisture out, but protect the unit from the elements.

Re: Winterizing CAC?
We use AC unit covers. We also unplug them to make sure we don't forget in the Spring and turn them on with the cover on. That's something "I" would do.

We have a cover that does not cover the entire unit. We were also told not to fully cover it. Doing so may cause condensation build up and it's not good for the motor.

Re: Winterizing CAC?
my cousin services CAC and told us NOT to cover the unit outside because it rots the components.
