Lost question for someone who is lost...
Okay I have never seen the show and wonder what is it actually about? Can someone give me a brief overview? I see all the "Lost" threads so I am guessing it is really good.

I remember seeing the previews a while ago. Is everyone on a plane and it crashes? Then they live on a desserted island or something like that?

Yes, but there is so much more to them just landing on any ol island. I would rent the first season , you will love it

Its soooo much more than a plane crashing and them living on an island. I didn't watch avidly last year since that is what I assumed it was too.. but I caught up on Season 1 via DVD and its fantastic,... its a lot lot more than what meets the eye

A plane crashed at an unknown location. A bunch of people survived. Some died since.
Mysterious things happen on the island. The story of the survivors is told by flashbacks to their pre-crash lives mixed in with present day happenings.
On the Island there is a hatch that used to be used to give some kind of psychological experiments, which requires a button to be pushed every 108 seconds. We're still finding out about that.
And there is a mysterious group of people that seem to have been living on the Island already called the "Others" and they seem to be evil - taking children, killing people, etc.
That's the 30 second review. There's a LOT more to be said though!!

Red's description is accurate.. all excpet you have to substitue "SAWYER" for "JACK"
i.e. "really hot character named SAWYER"
