The chips have fallen
Looks like I no longer have a relationship with either of my brothers, as a result of all the crap that went down with my father, and chewing them out.
The one in VA virtually ignored Alex's birthday, and instead of his usual habit of sending gifts (but never visiting), he didn't send a thing, not even a card, or a call.
The one in Philly just told me he has "other plans" for thanksgiving, even though it's a family tradition for him to come to my house and help me prepare the dinner.
Ohhhhhhhhhh well. So be it. I suppose my life is better without their chaos and selfishness, right?!

I'm so sorry - and it hurts most when it involves your child right? We're fighting with DH's brother now and our DD's birthday was Monday - not even an email from his brother or his long-time girlfriend.

Yes! Be happy for the people in your life who DO put forth the effort not because you ask them to but because they WANT to. It's your brothers' loss. I'm sorry that this has happened though

I'm sorry, that sucks. Hopefully they will come to their senses and move past all of this.
Family is so important, if they're too blind to see that now, maybe they will down the road.

I'm sorry Beth. I know this must hurt.
But you have to know that you behaved with honor and integrity. You did everything right. You had every right to say what you did to your brothers. They abandoned you to take care of your father, and they were wrong.
Hopefully they will soon grow up and realize everything they did, and what they lost and your relationship will grow again.

I agree. It's of their own doing and guilt. They can't face the music. They will be the lonely ones.

Re: The chips have fallen
I am sorry - but I have to say that I don't think you were wrong in anything that you did/said to them.
Sometimes the truth is hard to hear for some people, and it makes them react in different ways, such as not wanting to participate in a family tradition.
Time to make new traditions -

It's SO true.
I just called DH and told him we're having a chanukah party for our closest friends and (remaining) family.
Screw 'em!

ITA- you were NEVER wrong with anything that you said to them. Their selfishness and unwilling to bend at all was awful. It put SO much stress on you and your DH- it was definitely unfair..

Re: The chips have fallen
that really stinks. i know how hard it is to lose family. my dad had to write his sister out of his life because of her selfishness and how nasty she could be. sorry that it ended up this way
