Re: Last name help Please

To me, the fact that you discussed it and resolved it before you got pregnant means that you really should not change the plan right now while you are going through the stress of pregnancy.
I did not change my last name when we got married. I wanted my baby to have DH's last name and I don't like hypenated names. Obviously, DH had no problem with that, so the baby has his last name. As it turns out, we did use my last name as the baby's middle name. DH loved the idea and we avoided the hyphen thing.
As for your DH being Jewish, giving the baby a first and middle name with specific initials is not really the religious requirement. That is just something that some families do. My own first name is completely unrelated to my Hebrew name and unrelated to the person I was named after. My son will have a Hebrew first and middle name and those are not related to his secular American names.
Thank you for clearing that up. I was obviously missinformed by Dh's family. I am not Jewish. I was raised Catholic. I was told it is a Jewish tradition of using the first initial of a dead relative in the babies name to honor the dead. It makes me even more ****** that on top all this crap he is pulling now that they lied to me about religous tradition to get their way. Grrrrrrr
I think that a lot of Jews really do consider that to be a requirement because it has been done for so many years in their families. They may not even realize that it is only significant as a family tradition, not as a true requirement. I hope that makes sense. But you can tell them, I have been very cautious to do everything right by the religion, in case my child ever wants to become more religiious. However, my child's name does not follow any tradition regarding initials.

Re: Last name help Please
I am not a fan of combing names, last or first to make a new name for a child. i think a hyphenated name is fine, so long as you keep the first name short-ish.
