Doorknobs or levers?
What kind of doorknob would be best for the doors? I bought all knew basic brushed nickel knobs for all the doors. We're painting them white since we can't replace them. They're your basic flat doors, no panels. Do you think basic doorknobs would look better or do you think levers would make it look nicer since the doors are so plain? Thanks!

Doorknobs! Children can open levers much easier than they can open doorknobs.

Re: Doorknobs or levers?
WE have all levers. I personally like the look much better. Yes, the kids can open it, but I figure by the time they are tall enough to do so, its ok

Re: Doorknobs or levers?
Levers are preferable if you're concerned at all about providing a home that is more accessible to disabled or aging people. My Mom has severe arthritis and a lever is easier for her to open - it's hard to grip and turn a knob. It may not be something you need now, but it is a selling point if you plan to move on soon.

Thanks everyone...
We are selling the house soon. I just wasn't sure what potential homebuyers would like better.

Re: Doorknobs or levers?
We have levers and I love the way they look.
Also, levels are more handcapped accessible. they say levers are better if you have arthritis or carpel tunnel syndrome or other hand problems.
Obviously not an immediate concern but good to know.

I agree! I think the levers look much nicer, but with a toddler in the house I hate them!

Re: Doorknobs or levers?
Also, I am always the one who gets my pockets caught on levers...personally, I don't like them. I have a 1930's house with original doors, and the doorknobs are about 4 feet off the ground (as was the fashion in the 30's) so I would get them bloody caught on my top!
Knobs for me.

Re: Doorknobs or levers?
Knobs.
Get the builders pack from Home Depot if you want to replace them... much cheaper.
Levers are more $$$ and remember, every penny counts when you are essentially flipping a house.
I seriously doubt, many buyers are going to notice levers vs. knobs. They also don't necessarily notice new ones but they do notice old ones. New knobs, switchplates, new paint are all cheap fixes that can relaly freshen a house and give the "new" look buyers want.

Re: Doorknobs or levers?
We have a mix. I put the lever on the bathroom door, since it's easier for DS to get in. Most of the doors still have knobs. I think I'm going to go to mainly levers when we redo the house. It's also a lot easier to open the door if your hands are full (groceries, DC, laundry, etc), or if you happen to have had surgery recently and your hand isn't as strong as it used to be for a while......

We're painting the doors, not the knobs. Sorry!
I personally like the levers better, but they're a lot more expensive than what I paid for the knobs. I really don't like the knobs I got anyway, but I don't think I can afford the levers. We need too many of them.
