Would you buy discontinued furniture...
I did, and now I fee like it was a mistake.
We went to Behr's today and saw a set that we liked. I noticed it didn't have an armoire and kept looking around. Then I noticed the prices were slashed by a lot, and thought "floor sample" so I dismissed it.
The salesman said that Munire was discontinuing the style (Brighton) and that was the reason for the price reduction. We thought, heck, it's close to the Oxford style we wanted and the price was a few hundred off so we ordered it. I orderd the crib and the two dressers to match.
Now, I'm like, what did I do? Can you think of any advantages/disadvantages of buying discontinued furniture? I also figured it's quality furniture so whether it's discontinued or not, it's still a good buy, but now I'm not so sure.
I can still cancel the entire purchase if I want to, but would love to hear your thoughts.
On the plus side, since I saved a few $$$, DH let me splurge on the recliner/glider that I was salivating over.
OMG.....I'm turning into one of THOSE future mommies, aren't I????

Re: Would you buy discontinued furniture...
I would say no big deal... as long as you got all the pieces you wanted now. Is the crib one that converts to a bed? If not, will it be easy to find a bed to go with the rest of the pieces (if you will continue to use them once the baby is in a bed). I say... good bargain!

Re: Would you buy discontinued furniture...
The only drawback is if you wanted to add to the furniture in a few years....maybe the hutch and an end table or something like that. However, if you are happy with the pieces you got (and it sounds like you got the 3 main pieces) then good for you for saving some $$
P.S We were at Behr's today too and ordered a Munire set!

I don't think it's a big deal at all. If you do have issues, the company itself will still be around - I would be nervous if the company itself was going out of business.

One disadvantage is.. if delivered with a imperfection can you get the piece replaced? Like our changing table one of the draws was damaged, so we took the draw back and exchanged it for another draw, could you do that?

Re: Would you buy discontinued furniture...
If you bought a convertible crib, because it is discontinued you have to order the conversion kit for it right now or you won't be able to get it when the baby is ready.

Re: Would you buy discontinued furniture...
I did buy a convertable crib and all of the hardware to convert it to a bed. I had thought of that when we purchased the set.
As far as additional pieces, the only thing I might want to buy in a few years is a night stand, and the Oxford is very similar if we ever wanted to purchase the piece.

I hope this makes you feel better. I have a Munire set and the quality is outstanding so discontinued or not the quality is there And I agree 100% about the conversion kit

Only if they had the piece is stock, or could get one from the company (assuming they haven't already sold all of their merchandise).
...didn't think of that one...thanks.

Sounds to me like you got a good deal then. Plus you got the glider you wanted. Cant wait to see pics!

Re: Would you buy discontinued furniture...
I bought discontinued furniture and coulnd't be happier with it. I see no cons. I knew I would never turn the crib into a bed anyway so it didn't bother me in the least
