How do you confirm taxes???
Are the taxes listed on MLS generally the "real" taxes OR are those the taxes that are paid by the current homeowner???
How can I find this out. I have asked REAs about this and they kind of skim over it and say they can't represent a senior citizen disocunt or veterens discount when listing the taxes...is this true???
Can you tell my head is going to explode or what??

Re: How do you confirm taxes???
I think you can check mynassauproperty.com.
You can also call the town to confirm.

I am looking on mynassauproperty I see some discounts on a few houses...One has a senior discount. Would I just add that to what is posted on MLS?

Re: How do you confirm taxes???
Best idea....call the Town assessor's office for the exact taxes and make sure to ask if that is with or without STAR.

Mynassauproperty.com lists the discounts given, then at the bottom, the list taxes charged without discounts.

Are you looking where it says "Taxes without adjustments?" On the left bottom of general and school.

Re: How do you confirm taxes???
Realtors are by law required to tell you on MLS the taxes minus any discounts. You can check with your real estae lawyer or go to town hall.

I agree for Nassau. Some Suffolk towns have a tax website that gives exact taxes and discounts. My nassau is hard to understand in regards to taxes.

Re: How do you confirm taxes???
quickest way is to call the Nassau Assessors office (516) 571-1500. Its voice automated and you can search for tax information with either the section, lot, and block #'s or with just the address. I wish I had the # for suffolk too...if anyone has that please post it!

Call the town assessor's office. Some realtors do this, but others take the taxes off the current owner's tax bill or what the owner tells them the taxes are. Never assume what is on the listing are the real taxes, call and find out BEFORE making an offer.

Re: How do you confirm taxes???
I posted a link way back for Town of Huntington and Town of Smithtown tax info where you can put in the address and get exact taxes and discounts if you want that. I don't know about other Suffolk townships.

Re: How do you confirm taxes???
You can check the taxes through mynassauproperty and I believe the town if you have the lot#, etc. but your taxes will be reassessed after you purchase your home. Mine went up over $2,000.
