Feedback on Oceanside??

I saw some cute affordable houses in Oceanside but know nothing about the area. What can you tell me? Schools good? Commute to city? Neighborhood? TIA

i live in east rockaway (right next door).

IMO, Oceanside is great! It's on the Long Beach line which as a commuter, I'll say, isn't the greatest but could be a lot worse. Its about 45 minutes to the city from oceanside.

We're in Lynbrook now and moving to Baldwin. I have nothing bad to say about Oceanside. We looked at houses there, too!

I think the Long Beach line is a find commuter line. We are near the Centre Ave station (for one more week, anyway), and it's been great. DH and I both work in the city.

We live in Oceanside, the schools are great and there's lots of shopping nearby. Most people think the Long Beach branch isn't great, but I'll tell you my husband loves it because he always gets a seat!

I live close to Oceanside...We do all of our shopping there. The Stop and Shop is great, there is Kohls, and lots of stores in The Sands Shopping Center (where S&S is)

I have heard the schools are good too!

schools are great. nice neighborhood. i have many family members who live there and love it.

there are parts of oceanside that are very different from each other. any part in particular that you're looking at?

We live in Long Beach and have 1 acquaintance in Oceanside but do shop there a lot. We've never seen anything to complain about although I've seen larger lots the further north you go in Oceanside.

About the train line. We've lived here for 6 years and the commute is only 50 minutes to Penn from Long Beach. You will get a seat going into Penn but many times, my husband cannot get a seat on the way home and he stands.

After they suspended the service on the entire branch the day before yesterday, we counted the number of times he's had problems getting home since he got his new job in the city in May.

There has been flooding, a tree across the tracks, a house fire right next to the tracks, a track fire, and this week's lightning taking out the power to the 3rd rail.

Now I'm not saying that this is a problem with the LIRR itself, I'm just saying that in the last 6 months, there were more problems than the 2 years he commuted years back for a different job.

So we're hoping that it's just bad luck lately. For us, it doesn't really matter because we're moving. I would suggest finding out where some houses are that you like and taking a ride to Oceanside on weekends to look around.

Thanks!! Now we are in Bayside...and the past 6 months have been troubled for the LIRR on my line also!

The one house we are "stalking" is on Marlborough and says SEC/AREA: Oceanside Prope. Is that good?

Are there good and bad parts?
Which should I avoid??
