I have a mouse in my apartment..please help!

I HATE mice. We have a pretty clean apartment (as clean as I can keep it with a 1 year old running all day!!).

We saw a little baby mouse run across the floor last night. I still feel sick over it, i am a HUGE baby when it comes to rodents.

I do NOT want to use a sticky trap, i hear they are most inhumane. But I don't want to bother letting it go outside only to come back in.

What have you used that has worked? I should add...we are on a third floor walkup apartment. The mouse could have come from an apartment below, i cannot find for the life of me where it came from! I'm sure it brought friends!! Chat Icon

I feel so bad for you......I get so irrational with stuff like that I prob. would pack a bag and leave until someone else took care of itChat Icon

I've heard there is a poison you could buy that they eat and go outside looking for a drink...... I don't know if it works first hand though....GL

We get field mice once in a while. DW usually has me take care of them... I use the sticky traps and the "snap traps". They're in the attic, so nobody has to see them in action....

They can get in through the smallest of holes. Just big enough for their skull. The rest of their body can squeeze through. Often, especially around this time of year, they are looking for a warm place for the winter. It's no reflection on how clean your place is. It's warm, dry, and not going anywhere.

I use the physical traps, so they aren't dragging poison around the house where DC are. They have humane traps, but then you have to release them somewhere, and they may just come right back, or go into someone else's home.

Yeah, I definitely wanted to avoid the poison. My son puts everything in his mouth, I would be a wreck..

I guess I will buy a snap trap and go from there. I'm so grossed out. And i know it prob has nothing to do with cleanliness, but still....I am going to clean like a monster today!!

Thanks Chat Icon

I like the plastic ones, where you pinch the back together, and it latches open. With those, you don't have to touch anything except the part away from the "business end". I think it's one of the more sanitary traps.

It's not nice for the mouse, but it works wonders:

a cat!

Seriously, your kitty may bring you a few as a present, but once you get that cat smell in your apartment, the mice will stay away. If you have at all thought about getting a kitty, this may be your answer.

Doesn't always work... Chat Icon We had an older, alpha cat that loved hunting mice. She was great. Chat Icon

After she died, and we only had the younger cat, the younger cat would never catch the mice. Even when I put her right in front of a newborn mouse.... didn't touch it.... Chat Icon Therefore, the mice weren't afraid of her.

They have these great traps that are all enclosed. They are shaped like a circle. You bait them with PB and the mouse goes in a hole. When they get trapped the trap trips and the hole covers over and you throw it out. YOu never thouch anything and they are safe for kids. I don't know who makes them but they are black plastic and cirlce shaped.

Yeah, I tried these and the damn mouse ran AROUND it. I got the sticky tape things and boom, that little sucka was caught. I dont do mice. I can handle anything but mice. I came home from vacation to catch Mickey vacationing in my kitchen...Get the glue tapes, put them along the walls and he will go on there. GL.

I guess I just have a hunter cat, then. If I lived in NY, I'd rent him out. Chat Icon

I have a kitty that acts as our exterminator. He caught the bat in our house...

I could let him come to yours...
