Need help on Breeder info
My friend wants to get a Havanese puppy from a breeder. She has located one in Kansas, but wants to know how she can look up info on this breeder, etc.
Or does anyone have a havanese breeder they recommend?
She does not want to adopt, she wants to get one from a breeder.

And in the list of breeds, they list cockapoo, etc so

Hi Holly. Ask Shanti. she is all about the Havanese & I am sure she knows a good Breeder. Also, there is a very good list of questions to find a good breeder (to distinguish from a BYB or a PM). Fm me if you'd like that list.

The American Kennel Club will give you lists of reputable breeders. Your friend should also ask any potential breeder for a list of references and then call those references.
Tell her NOT to look for breeders on the internet. Most of them are not reputable and run shady breeding practices.

ITA, breeder referral sites are usually laced with irresponsible breeders. Sorry

I agree with MrsMBV - FM Shanti, she has three - two purchased from a breeder and one rescue.
If not her, go to the American Kennel Club - do not use any of these websites that are supposed to link you to breeder, most of them are not responsible breeders.

Most people who are in the animal rights and wellness community would recommend against any pet stores. They all use puppy mills (regardless of what they claim) which are cruel and illegal.
If you want to find a reputable breeder, go to akc.org. I think Shanti also recommends a breeder that she is familiar with. Please also considering adoption. There are tons of homeless dogs just waiting for a loving home.

I have pure-bred animals, and I volunteer at a shelter. I have no problem with someone wanting to purchase their animal from a reputable breeder, but I BEG you not to buy from a pet store. I'm sorry I don't have a breeder recommendation for you, but even try e-mailing the Havanese rescue organization, as the rescue organizations are often run by a group of responsible breeders, and if nothing less would be able to recommend a good breeder or definitely tell you who an irresponsible breeder is!

i wish more than anything i was able to go to a shelter (it actually breaks my heart) but I have really really bad allergies and can only have a pure breed hair dog, and am struggling w/ not rescueing a dog (but I need to know it is NOT mixed w/ anything)
just wanted to clear that up~ its a health thing......
well anyway, if u guys hear of a little of havanese pups in the LI area, please let me know!!
or to kittythestray, if u know of any hair (not fur) puppies at the shelter, keep me in mind..... Thanks all
