Re: Key stuck in ignition
Is it totally in park? One time my key was stuck and a co-worker told me to turn the car back on, shift into reverse and then back to park and then I was able to turn off and remove the key.
Good luck!

Re: Key stuck in ignition
I'll try it, but I'm not sure if that is the problem
The car is a stolen recovery...so the steering column has a crack. I wonder if that has anything to do with it
anyway, what happened was that DH tried to use the remote to open the car the other morning and it wouldn't work. The light on it was flashing, but the car wouldn't open. He didn't have time to play with it so he took his other car.
Since I'm the "mechanic" in the family he called me to look at it. I figured it was the battery...tried the lights...nothing. I stuck the key in the ignition, turned, nada. Battery is dead. Tried to take the key out, and it wouldn't come out!
So, I have no idea...

So, I have no idea... is your car a GM? I have had the same problem on my car too. I have no clue why the ignotion would lock the key in there when the battery is dead I see no point to it. and it's a PIA!

Re: Key stuck in ignition
The iginition is electric and if your battery is dead, you won't be able to get it out once it's turned..
sounds good right?

Re: Key stuck in ignition
Thanks girls...that seems to be it!!
I found this in some auto forums
.. To temporarily fix it, there is a button under a small cap under the steering column. Remove the cap and push the button inside, this will release the key. .
That's correct. You also need this feature should you loose battery power with the key in the ignition. No power and you can't get the key out of the ign. My 2007 has a little pop open door under the steering colm.

Re: Key stuck in ignition
Did you get out the key? You might need to put a pen in hole under where the key goes to get it out (used to happen ALL THE TIME to my Oldmobile Bravada - we kept a pen in the car for just such "emergencies" )
