Rug Question

We just ordered a rug to go under our dining room table. We paid extra for the under rug pad. Do we really need it? It is not like the rug is free standing in the middle of the room and has the potential to shift when people walk on it, there is a dining room table on top of it. Opinion, whether or not to return the rug pad and get my money back?

Re: Rug Question

I think I would return it. It's not like you're going to move that rug with a huge table on top of it.

Re: Rug Question

I would actually definitely keep it. The rug can still move, but more importantly, people are more likely to trip on the edges of the rug -- they can still slip even with the table on top.

Personally, I'd keep it. My parents tried their oriental in the DR without it and it was not too safe.

Re: Rug Question

I would return it. We have an area rug under our dining room table & that thing is not moving.

Re: Rug Question

Ok, here's my silly reaosn for keeping it.

If your floor an/or the rug are very slippery, it will be hard to keep the rug exactly wher you want it when the DR table is moved in, and that would drive me crazy!

My bedrrom rug on a HW floor moved so easily before we got the pad.

Re: Rug Question

IMO, you definitely need it. My dad was in the carpet and rug busines for 25 years. He didn't like thick padding but always used something. He usually threw that in with the customer's purchase, so it's not like he made $$ on that. We put down an oriental rug in our house and did not have the padding at first. When we finally got it, the whole look of the rug was richer.

Re: Rug Question

It depends on the material of the rug. We have an area rug that's pretty thick with bound edging, so we didn't get a rug pad and it doesn't shift. But we also have a more casual thin rug from C&B that definitely needs a pad.
