Freddy update-updated
Another page has turned for Fred. He has been accepted at St. Johnland in Kings Park for the rest of his rehab. This took a lot of negotiating since it's the only TBI (traumatic brain injury certified place on LI. Getting him out of Jamaica Hospital is the best thing. He was there for over 4 months! A total of 6 months as an inpatient.
An ambulette will be bringing him there today around noon and I will meet him there.
He will get functional training there with his prosthesis and I hope he can make good progress. The place is a completely different facility and is beautiful. I think he will be glad to be out of the hospital and into a more relaxed environment with things to do after therapy.
The location couldn't be better since mom and dad will be living about 30 minutes away. Kings Park is nice! (who knew?) I've heard great things about St. Johnland and I'm optimistic.
Mom and dad fly in Thursday evening and Friday I will take them there to visit.
I'm anxious to pass the torch and get back to my life. I want to be the 20% not the 80% now if you know what I mean.
His two biggest deficits are his short term memory and of course his leg. I have faith and hope that he will make a meaningful recovery. His insurance company has been very supportive. So far, I couldn't have asked for better support.
Soon, I will write letters to all the facilities who took care of him to thank them. (all but one)
Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, wishes and letting me get it all out here. This has been therapeutic and has helped me tremendously.
Update: He loved the place. After being assessed by all of the therapists we are both exhausted. I spent 4 hrs there and was able to be there when he arrived. I'm home now and I have to work now!

You already know how I feel about St Johnlands. They were fantastic to DH and were a huge part of his recovery.
I am so happy Fred will be there. He will be treated very well.
And here's to you for your constant support to Fred and getting your life back

 I have heard good things about St. Johnland. My aunt was there for years.
Kings Park is a very nice area. I live about 10-15 mins. away.

Susan, I am SO happy for you and Fred - it seems like things are turning a new leaf for both of us - it's very hopeful and makes me optimistic. I can just hear in your post how a weight has lifted from your shoulders - I hope you can get back to some normalcy, and start relaxing a little

My dad is a "graduate" of the TBI unit at St. Johnland. He was there when it first opened. They performed absolute miracles with his recovery and I hope the same for Freddie
It was far and away the best place I visited and the people there were so warm and caring.
