Jury duty - now or with a newborn?
Thoughts??
I just got a summons for jury duty - exactly 1 month before my due date!
I'm thinking to just serve now, because you can only postpone for 6 months max, and that puts me in the time frame when I will be home with her. I would rather just go now, then have to leave her when she's so young.
I feel bad to have to miss some work, but I think I would rather miss that, than time with her. Is that wrong ?

I went when I was pregnant. They felt bad for me and let me go quickly. I just got another summons too. They must've liked me.

On the one hand, if you are in late pregnancy, you will probably be let out fairly quickly.
However, being about a month away from my due date, I would currently dread the possbility of having to sit in those courtoom seats and wait around. Too many aches and pains!!!! I'm a lawyer and the best favor I can get right now is to have a judge call my case first so I do not have to sit on a bench and wait.

I'd go now, they are more likely to excuse you early

if you are the main caregiver of a child you can also request postponement, you have to send them a copy of birth certificate...

Re: Jury duty - now or with a newborn?
thanks everyone! just saw my doctor for my 33 week appointment and he definitely said to go now. no lawyer is going to want to touch me, so hopefully I'll be let go early.
he also said it would be a good time to work on my shower thank yous .

Re: Jury duty - now or with a newborn?
I went when I was preggo - got called for a trial, and got let go (the case was medical malpractice and expected to last weeks).
I definitely would go now and get excused - that way you don't have to serve again for a few years, rather than be summoned in 6 months.
