who has left l.i and loves it?

Hey just curious has anyone left long island and just absolutely loves where they are now?My little family wants a nice affordable home in a family neighborhood,good schools.. some good shoppping.Sort of what long island was when i was a kid.we are looking all over the country but would prefer east coast.My dh is a h.s teacher,and i will be doing hair .I would really appreciate to hear from you.Thanks

DH and I moved off of LI in June- We bought a condo just south of Boston but north of the Cape. We absolutely are in LOVE with the whole area!!! I can't get enough of the little stores all around and how close it is to Boston reminds me of our old proximity to Manhattan.

Schools are excellent out here- we will look into something a little larger in a few years but I have a feeling we'll be staying in this general area

i lovvve where i live now.. i live in monmouth county nj... and i call it "bizzaro LI"
its li with waaaaay more guidos hehe
but things are so much cheaper!

We left LI and love it now...we moved to NC last august and it was a big adjustment. But I don't think i will ever move back now, it truely feels like home.

DH and I moved to GA 4 months after we got married and LOVE IT. The way of life, cost of living and weather are truly GREAT.

We bought a house alot sooner than many of our friends and I am a SAHM.

Plus the teaching market down here is BOOMING---they are DESPERATE for teachers down here.

Thanks for all of the replies.We have looked into North Carolina,alot of our friends have moved there but they dont have kids yet so im not so sure about the schools.
As for Boston we went for a quick trip last summer and loved ot too.What a great city.
Does anyone know anything about Georgia?We like historical cities with great food and shopping,safe.family friendly....God i sound like such a spoiled New Yorker.anyway all your feedback is a big help

Hey thanks shana,i am definitely going to check out that teach georgia site for my hubby.I would hate to leave my sister and parents in n.y but the thought of renting for however long is frustrating.We know that we could get so much more with the down payment we have saved if we take the plunge and leave the island.

i also moved to nj and love it here. after living here i have very little desire to live on LI again. every time i go back i think to myself i don't miss this place at all! i do miss family and friends, but other than that i love where i live.

You should check out Charleston SC. For schools check out Mt. Pleasant. It remiond me of LI as it is a beachy type community. It has a small town feel. There are big box retailers but also small Mom and Pop type places. We loved it there!

We moved to Northern Virginia and I love it. I love that we are 30 minutes away from either the country or the city. And I love the historical aspect of the area, especially since my ancestors are from the area. And you can find just about any kind of cuisine here (lots of Pho and Kabob places especially), even though its hard finding a good egg roll or kosher deli. But we have found NY quality pizza.

Although I do miss the beach!

I left Long Island and never looked back. I wouldn't move back here now, nice to come and visit, but I also love leaving!!!

There are a lot of great towns in Ga like that. It just depends where you are looking to work. I've been here for almost 8 years and LOVE it!

We made the move to NC just over two months ago, and we LOVE IT HERE! The people are so much nicer overall, the quality of life is better (not as stressful), and for us, it's just a much better environment. We're not fighting over money anymore!

Sure, it's a little bit of culture shock after growing up on LI, but I can honestly say we won't be coming back.

Not sure if I love living in NJ yet.

But, I think its because where I live is very similar to where I am from on Long Island, so other than being away from friends and family, it's not so different.

I think if you are going to leave LI and your friends/family, you should go to a place where you'll have a better cost and quality of living, whereas not much difference for me now.

It is good to know I am not the only one who has contemplated such a big move My husband said we should each pick 5 places we would consider moving to, research them and then see were it goes from there. I will be looking at a few of the places you have all mentioned.
