when are you finally safe

I've been reading so many posts about miscarriages .. even ones after the 1st trimester. My heart goes out to all the woman and the families who have been through this ordeal. My question is when is it finally safe to know that you will not lose the baby. I thought it was after the first trimester but now i'm scared. I'm currently 14 weeks and so far the doctor says everything looks good. When or even is there a safe zone where you know you won't lose the baby?

It sounds like you want to know when you can be 100 percent certain that you won't lose your baby. There is never such a time. The risk goes down right around the end of the first trimester but as you have noticed, people do lose babies after that. Sorry to be so brutally honest. The worry does decrease as the pregnancy progresses and it is easier once you can feel the baby moving.

Sadly, there's never a truly "safe" time.

Generally your risk of "miscarriage" decreases after 8 weeks and then again after 14 weeks.

After that the next big milestone is 27 weeks, because then the baby has a chance to survive with assistance.

The best you can do is take every day as it comes and not stress yourself out too much about it.

The best thing I did for myself during my pregnancy was buy a doppler.

I could listen to the heart every night and feel calmer. Chat Icon

Re: when are you finally safe

I learned the hard way during my last pregnancy that there never really is a time when you are "safe". The thing that you have to remember is that there are only so many things that you can control in life (and in pregnancy). Please don't waste your entire pregnancy worrying about what "might" happen. I hate to sound like a cliche, but sometimes things happen for reasons that we will never understand. Enjoy every minute that you can!!
