How much, on average, is your electric bill? I know it depends on useage, but just a ball-park figure. I am trying to figure out a budget. Thanks!Chat Icon

we're on LIPA's balanced billing program and pay $100 a month all year round.

we have a large 1 bedroom apt with CAC. and the CAC doesn't get turned off between end of May and late Sept.

We have a two bedroom apt, barely use a/c in the summer, but my orchidarium fans and lights use electricity for 14 hours a day. Our bill is between $70. and $90.

Ours was higher - about $150 a month.

But there was me, my DH and my two stepdaughters that are here about 75% of the time and had lights/tv on all the time. We also had ancient appliances.

It was for 900sq ft.

are you in an apt building?

we are in an apt building and use Con Ed

It is about 180 - which I know is high, we can't figure out why we pay so much...

edit** So i just found out it is about 180 for TWO months...that's a difference!-- we're probably paying anywhere btw 80-90 a month

We're in an apt. bldg. and use Con Ed. If we were to use their "budget plan," we'd be paying $140 a month year-round (which is ridiculous). I went off the budget plan and until July, my bills were between $80-90/month. Over the summer, they're higher because of the ACs, but it still doesn't add up to $140/month.

Ours is around $60 in the summer. We don't used the A/C much, but we always have fans on when we're home, plus TV, lights, computer and electric stove/oven. We're also signed up on a clean energy plan, so supposedly we pay a bit more and get wind and water energy.

$145 a month on the Con Ed level payment plan. I work from home 90% of the time so everything is on all day plus 2 computers (office laptop & personal PC). It's for 850 sq ft.

We also have an ancient frig that we really need to replace ASAP.

Unplugging the ancient frig in one of our VACANT rentals brought the bill down from about $112 to $35!!!

We spent around $50 most months (without the air conditioner). With the AC on, it was around $70-80 a month. We didn't have CAC, just window units. This was for a 2-bedroom co-op apt.

no doubt. The fridge is one of the biggest electricity draw.

Yep, and that's why we are constantly researching new refrigerators. I am pretty set on an LG French Door model.
