Dear Blue Cross Blue Shield and Caremark Pharmacy
Thank you for changing your formulary. Now that you finally cover Singulair, I only have to pay $25 dollars (instead of $119 out of my pocket) each month so I can breath through my nose which is something I really like to do. I guess someone who is a bit more vocal than I am made a much bigger stink than I did.
Kisses, Leslie

Re: Dear Blue Cross Blue Shield and Caremark Pharmacy
I was jumping through hoops with this company. I had been using Singulair for YEARS on a daily basis afterhaving tried antihistamines and allergy shots. When my company changed carriers, I got screwed.
My doctor wrote me a pre-authorization and it was denied. Then he wrote a second one and it was denied again. Antihistamines make me too sleepy and are pretty ineffective. There is no question that I need a leukotriene blocker (like Singulair). Well Blue Cross's pharmacy Caremark thought otherwise and wouldn't cover what I needed until and unless I tried EVERY Rx antihistamine for at least a month. Um no.
I decided to pay cash for what I need and then yesterday, I was surprised to be charged only $25. My pharmacist said is now a preferred item. Lucky me!

Oxford is no different, they made me pay $50 per pill pack when I was on the pill, but I only paid $15 for my entire pregnancy and L&D experience.

I paid $20 or $25 for the pill on Oxford. I was off the pill when we switched to Empire Blue so I have no idea what they would charge.
All I know is that it makes sense to just pay for the damn drug than to pay an allergist to shoot me up every other week or so for 5 years.
