Triple screen test to do or not?
I had a visit with my doctor yesterday. At our next visit she said I have to decide if I want to do the triple screen or not. I don't think I want to do it. I heard there is a significant false positive rate. Has anyone else chosen not to do this? Both of my sisters didn't with either of their pregnancies and were glad they didn't. Just curious about everyone elses opinions.

I didn't do the triple test, I did the quad (triple + one more test). But I am a special case, I didn't have a choice really. I am at a heightened risk for downs and nt defects due to a genetic thing I have. I had the test done last week. I would never terminate no matter what but I would like to be prepared.

We just skipped the triple screen and went straight for the amnio.
Part of the reason to skip it was the high false positive rate. Another part was the fact that the test is NOT diagnostic, it is only a screen, and if you get "bad" results the only way to know for sure is to do an amnio.

We actually chose not to have any of those tests. We did not do the ultrascreen, quad test or the triple screen. It really is a personal choice! Good luck!

I didn't do it. Likke someone else posted it is just a screening test. Since I knew I would not have an amnio regardless of the result I didn't want the worry that would come with a false positive which, my dr. said, the false positive rate is significant for this test. It's a personal decision you have to make - there is no right answer. good luck.

I chose to have the screenings. I wanted to be prepared in case anything was wrong. I didn't have any issues with any of the tests and all of them came back negative. It is a personal choice and you have to decide what is right for you and your baby.
