Confused about the nuchaltransulency at 13 wks. and the triple screen at 16 wks??

My dr. sent me for the nuchal transulency where they measure the babies spine and prick your finger for blood. The dr. wrote me another prescription for the tripel-screen at 16 wks. but are the 2 tests checking for the same things? Why would I go twice? Someone told me not to go for the 16 wk test b/c the 13 wk tests checks for the same thing and the 16 wk test gets a lot of false positives.

did you go for both?

i did go for both.
i think that the 16 week test also screens for spina bifida which the NT test does not.

I am scheduled to do both. I should have asked at the doctors office but it seems like the 16 week test also looks for things that are not covered by the ultrascreen. But I could be wrong.

I went for both. The second screening also tests for other things other than Downs. It is also more thorough.
