Apple Pickers
So this chilly weather has got me thinking about fall.
DH and I really want to go Apple Picking this year. Can someone tell me where on LI they go Apple Picking and when exactly the best time to go?

we go in October near Lewins Farms off of sound Ave. I know that pumpkin picking there is lewins but i dont htink the apples are but there are signs to go apple picking near lewins. when we go in october for pumpkins we go apple but they seem to be sparse so i would say go in mid september.

A REALY beautiful place to go apple picking is upstate in Fishkill. You actually drive your car through the orchard and can climb the trees to pick the apples.

we go there...then hit the haunted house and then briermere farms...yummy!!!!!!!! I love love fall.

This is the name of the place I used to go to but the website link is not working...
Ok...I see what happened...Keepsake Orchards is now Barton Orchards...they must have taken over the name.
Here's the schedule:
Macintosh, Spartan, Empire and Macoun in September
Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Rome in October

By the way, we always get the apple turnovers and cider that they sell in their market...they are oh so yummy!! The views are beautiful up there too...

I was very disappointed by the apple picking out east last year. We always go upstate - try Oochs or Maskers Orchards. Drive right up to the tree, grab your apples and go. It's a lot fun.

I agree...if you're going to do it right....go upstate and make a day of it.

i keep trying to google it and they are all saying different things
one place says early aug
another late Aug
another September!!!
Here is what I got from Lewins
Strawberries.................Sorry NO U-PICK this season
Peaches........................Middle of July to the end of
September
Tomatoes, Peppers,
Eggplant......................CLOSED
Apples.........................end of August to 1st week of October
Pumpkins....................end of September through
October
Christmas trees............day after Thanksgiving to
Christmas

Man I always go apple and pumpkin picking in the same day maybe that will explain why there is hardly any apples!!!!!!!! Maybe me and DH will go sooner for apples and then back for pumpkins! And if you like peaches their peaches are soooooo good!! If I go I will post for u how the apples were!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We usually go to the Milk Pail in South Hampton. Duckwalk Vineyard is on the other side of the road so we always hit that on the way back- nice way to end the trip!

One more question - is there other things to do in/around the farm? I'm thinking maybe DH and I can go and stay a night if there is other stuff to do.
