Help me decide what to do in LR/DR(poll included)
Hope this isn't too confusing...
We are now choosing colors for the house (it's been a LOOOONG 4 months!) and I'm sure I will have LOTS of questions. We made an open floor plan for the LR and DR. I THINK we've decided on BM Shaker Beige. I had wanted some red in the room but then decided against it b/c I was afraid it would shorten the room and make it look smaller. Now I'm rethinking.........AND if we do the red I'm not sure if the SB would be too dark with it...maybe we should go with a lighter tan.....
These pictures are taken from part of the LR looking into the DR. The LR ends where you see the wood end (on the floor) and the DR will be where you see tile on the floor. I am thinking of doing the wall with the a/c (left) and the rest of LR SB and the wall with the french doors and the wall to the RIGHT of the french doors (up to the opening) possibly like a Garrison Red (at first I thought I would do just the french doors wall red but I'm afraid that when you walk it the wall will be the focus point and will stop the room) the wall on the other side of the large opening would be SB....will that look ok or should I do it all one color?
Hope this makes sense.....any other suggestions are welcome!!
TY!
ETA: oops forgot to add pics
ETA again: if I do the red on the right wall do I just make a line above the opening to seperate the colors Image Attachment(s):

Re: Help me decide what to do in LR/DR(poll included)
I have shaker beige in many of my rooms. It will not be too dark with red. It would look nice.
Personally, I would not paint one wall a different color with such a long rectangular room. For some reason, I only prefer one wall of a color with a shorter or square room. But that may just be me...

i agree.
how about adding a chair rail to the DR area? you can add it on all 3 walls and stop at the doorway on the right and add some type of vertical molding or decorative piece on the wall on the right to separate the DR space from the LR space. paint the bottom GR and the top SB.

I agree too. This would be a nice option. The rooms actually look very spacious so I don't think doing a red would make them look smaller.

My sister suggested the chair rail too....DH is going to kill me for suggesting more work . Which would you do lighter on top or bottom (would carry in for LR)

Chair rail sounds nice, I thought that too.

since there would be more wall space on the top, i would paint the bottom GR and the top SB. when using 2 different colors you are "supposed" to paint the bottom darker and the top lighter (draws the eye upward).
another more formal option is adding pcture molding higher up on the wall. i will find pics later for you and post. w/ this molding, IMO the SB would look best on the bottom and GR on the top

will search for online pics later but for now do a search on the home board for pottery red. you will see several posts of my DR. don't focus on the colors (pottery red and lenox tan) or the beadboard. the molding that separates the lenox tan from the pottery red colors is picture molding.
