Painting Question

When painting a room should the moulding by the floor be white or the color of the wall? The rest of the moulding would be white. We have wood floors. Can you post pics of both if you have them. Thanks

Re: Panting Question

I think it depends.... I think both are done fairly regularly....

In our apartment, we have white doors and white door frames.... our moulding is white.

at my mom's home she has wood stained doors, and wood-stained door frames.... the moulding matches the walls.......

Re: Panting Question

We did white moulding with colored walls

In the living room - the moulding is just stained dark brown and in the dining room, it's a contrasting color to the walls (we did NOT paint the dining room - the previous owners cane up with the LOVELY color scheme)

Here are some pics

Re: Panting Question

Forgot to add that I think that the white is a nice contrast to the wall color - no matter what the color is. I like it broken up a bit.

Glad you can see the pics now Chat Icon Hope they help a bit

Re: Panting Question

I have all white molding and colored walls.

I think it's a preference thing but most do it this way now.

Most of the time it's white. You can also choose a color in the same family as the walls that is either darker or lighter and complements the walls. The BM site gives trim color suggestions.

Re: Panting Question

I think it's a matter of preference...with that said, I prefer it to match the rest of the molding in the house, so if it's white...I'd do white.

Re: Panting Question

Definitely white, or the color of all other mouldings in the room. My MIL paints her mouldings the color of the walls and I don't like it. I like the contrast of the white mouldings it makes them stand out more.

Re: Painting Question

I think painting the baseboards the same color makes the room look bigger (that's what I read once somewhere), but I like some contrast and usually do 2 shades lighter (I'm not a white person)
