Elevator Etiquette

Dear rude person on the elevator:

Ok, seriously, if you see me rushing to the elevator, please don't pretend you don't see me. Hold the dang door open.....

Also, when I am kind enough to hold the door for YOU, don't just walk on and say "FOUR, PLEASE!". Are your fingers broken? Push it your darn self.

Thank you.

Re: Elevator Etiquette

Oh I have one:

Dear Person waiting to get on elevator,

The door just opened, please let me and my stroller off before you hop on. And don't roll your eyes at me because I pushed my stroller out the door before you could get on. I'm pretty sure I have the right of way.

Thank you.

Re: Elevator Etiquette

Can I play?

Dear Elevator Person:

It's just the two of us in this big elevator, is it really necessary to stand so close to me I can smell what you ate for lunch on your breath?

Re: Elevator Etiquette

Dear guy on the 2nd floor..

Really?? Elevator down to the second floor? You look like you're 25 and your legs seem to be perfectly in tact and you wasted not only your own time WAITING for the elevator to come deposit you 1 floor down from where you were standing, but you wasted my time as well. Chat Icon

Signed,
I have a train to catch at Penn, can't you tell!? Chat Icon

Re: Elevator Etiquette

Dear Elevator Passenger,

Please turn yourself around and face the door.

Don't stand sideways and face me.

There's even a pretty tv screen for you to read the news...if you only faced the door and looked at it.

Thank You.

Re: Elevator Etiquette

OMG I work in Brooklyn Heights with all these artsy snotty people. They NEVER hold the elevator.

The best is when you are getting off the elevator and people rush on before you can get off. I HATE that. Chat Icon

Re: Elevator Etiquette

When I was on the cruise last month I was getting on the elevator and I had DS in the stroller. I was by myself because I told DH and his mom that I was going to the room to put DS down for a nap. Anyways I get on the elevator that was already full of people. So some people moved around so I was able to squeeze in. Then as the doors were about to close this woman was running for the elevator and she had a stroller. She looked and made a face that said "I know I can't fit in there with my stroller". It was one of those long jeep strollers. So the doors closed. Then this man looks at me and said " if you moved over a bit she could have fit in" he said it with this snot rag voice. I looked at him and said "do your feet hurt". Then I was like "don't worry next time i'm in an already full elevator i'll just put my son and the stroller on top of my head that way more people can get in". He shut his mouth quick...

Some people have some nerve! I should have also said that if he would have gotten off the elevator maybe that woman could have fit into the elevator.

Re: Elevator Etiquette

I agree with all the other posters, so I'll just write about the pet peeves that haven't been mentioned.

Dear Elevator rider:

There are floor numbers over the inside door for a reason. Don't get out at every stop, get one step out of the elevator, then realize it's the wrong floor, and come back in.... Chat Icon

When you come to a crowd of people waiting for an elevator, and you see that the "Up" button is lit up, DON'T press the button again! The elevator is coming! Do you think all of us are seriously waiting around for you to come and press the button for us?

Dear Elevator Rider,
Please do not jump on the elevator only to stand right in front of the panel so no one else can push their floor button. If you choose to stand there, don't sigh and roll your eyes when you are asked to hit the button for everyone.

Sincerely,
9 please Chat Icon
