Re: I NEED to get over this!!!
I get scared very easily and can get a little freaked if I spend the night alone-- but, I lived alone for 7 years before moving in with DH--- in Manhattan WITH a fire escape and no doorman-- so a night alone doesn't really bother me. I actually like having the place to myself.
I just sleep with the TV on for company when I get spooked.
I still am a little afraid of the dark.

This sounds crazy to me. Did something happen to you that you are scared? Have you never lived alone?
My dh works nights & even though thoughts can run through my head at times, I would never sleep out because I'm scared.
Aren't we all grown women here? There comes a point where you have to live your life & not let fear control you
wow, harsh, I don;t think it has anything to do with being a grown woman, everyone has fears and this is a fear of MANY people.
ETA- I know a HUGE marine who is 40 years old and is deathly afraid of spiders, has nothingto do with being a grown up.
I wasn't trying to be harsh at all. But if this is something that is affecting your life or inconveniencing you in some way, it should be dealt with.
I think it does have something to do with being grown, you need to be independent

Wow! Don't hold back now!
What does her not wanting to be alone have to do with not being a "grown woman"? Let's not assume Michele was traumatized in some way as a child and that's why she dislikes being alone. Just because I run up the stairs and look behind me, does that make me childish? We had a motion light installed outside our garage, does it make me paranoid when I worry that it goes off and no one is around?
Everyone has their quirks and I suggest that, before you judge someone else, you take a look at yourself and see how perfect YOU are. I highly doubt that you don't have some quirky fear or irrational way about you.
Seriously.

Don't get so offended. The comment was a general statement, not a personal attack on anyone. Installing a motion light & taking other precautions is normal, so is running up the stairs when you're scared. Staying out of your house for a week because dh is not home is a little extreme & it seems like a hinderance

Oh, to be alone... what I would give to enjoy a quite night at home all by myself!!!
Get over it and try to enjoy yourself! Have some wine and watch a movie!
There will come a time when you will be longing for solitude in your own house!

Re: I NEED to get over this!!!
I think you need to find the root of the problem rather than going around it and not sleeping by yourself.
Have you ever lived alone before?
Fo rme, I have always lived with someone!(1st parents then roomate in college then DH) I would kill for the chance to be alone for a few days and find out what independence feels like I might not like it afterwards but I'd like to know what I'm missing

I feel for you...I am the same way! I felt safer at my mom's because she has a mean dog to protect me and her street is more lit up....but here I feel it's darker and we don't have a dog
