Re: LIPA
Had they not read the meter in a long time? That would stink if they were underetimating your bill by that much for so long... What were your previous bills like?
It was our second bill. We just purchasedthe house in June (late June). Our first bill was $212 for two weeks which I though was high because we only lived there for a little over a week. This was our first bill for a "full" month. I'm really thinking that something is VERY wrong here.

Re: LIPA
we have an outrageous bill, if you ask me...
in the winter, for only lights and hot water for a small one bedroom apt $140
mind you, we're seldom even home! Cooking and heat is gas.....
electric hot water is a killer... I'd pitch that #$@#$@ heater if I could... but it's my landlord's....
we just got june's bill, and it was $175
we got married in june, and went away.... so for almost 2 weeks, the airconditioning wasn't on, and the hot water was shut off! WHAT THE @#$@#$!!!!!

Re: LIPA
in the winter our lipa bill averages 60-70 bucks. we have a 2 bedroom 1 1/2 bath condo (there's an upstairs and downstairs though and an electric washer/dryer in our unit). we just got our first bill for the summer and it was 172. not too too bad since we leave the ac's on almost 24/7.

That can't be right - call them and talk to them - even if you left everything on for 2 months - I can't see it being that high
Did you move one LIPA account to your new house? Is it possible this is the last meter read on your previous apartment / house PLUS the new bill at the new place?
I was going to say this too that maybe the previous owners owed money and didn't notify lipa they were moving.
My friends make fun of me but my LIPA bill for a 4 bedroom cape is $75 tops. At Christmas time its only $120.

I would definitley call for a re-read... unless you have a 5000 square feet home with the central air set at 68 degrees, and the windows open. My home is 1700 sqft with central air and mine has averaged 200 a month.
