My Birth Story
Everything started on Sunday July 15th. I started to feel really achy, body chills and skin hurting, along with lower back pain and stomach ache. By Sunday night I started to see a slight pink in my discharge, so I got real excited. I rested and took Tylenol for the flu like symptoms and figured it was my bodies way of telling me I might be headed for labor. I had an appt the next morning @ 730am so figured I would hold out. I called work (L & D @ North Shore) and spoke to the resident and he also advised I could want til the morning to see my Dr. Monday morning I got to my Dr's office an they place me on the NST monitor as soon as I got there. Baby was pretty much in sleep mode and I started having contractions that were consistently 4-5mins apart for over the next hour. My exam was 1cm and 90% and Dr advised me that I probably was not going to make in to my induction for the following night, which I was so happy about, and he wasn't to concerned about the flu like symptoms because my temp was under 100 F. But I was still worried. My husband and I then left the Dr's and got breakfast and then went home. By the time we got home I was contracting every 3-4mins consistently. At 1130am one of the covering Dr's from the practice called me at home to tell me she was in the hosp and I could come in @ anytime. By 1230pm I could take the pain anymore, so we headed to the hosp. When we got there my Dr was doing a delivery, so I waited to be checked. Once I was on the monitors I was contracting every 2mins, @ 230pm when I got checked I was 2cm and 100% and getting admitted to the hosp. The nurses (my coworkers and evening mgr) were there taking care of me, IV got started and soon after I got my epidural. What a relief. About one hr later I was feeling pain again, so my Dr came in to check me and I was 3-4cm so she decided to break my water which made me 4cm, but my fluid @ this point was light green which meant the baby had pooped. By 645pm I was 8cm, and so excited. But everything took a turn for the worst. I started to have a temp, and my blood work showed signed of infection and babies heartbeat was showing signs of distress. A C-section was discussed even though I so badly wanted a vaginal delivery. My epidural also fell out and now I was in so much pain. Contracting every 2mins I was rushed to the OR and prepped for my spinal and delivery. My little boy was born @ 807pm in face up position with a cord around his body and legs, but crying as soon as he was delivered. My husband and I were so relieved to see our little boy. My recovery hasn't been good though I ended up with an infection in my incision and my incision popping open. I am now on a double antibiotic and have to have my dressing changed once or twice a day. I have took camp at my parents house so they can help me while my husband works. So please keep me in your prayers for a fast recovery.
