Turnarounds in life...
Yes, kind of a heavy question but:
Have you ever had a time in your life where things changed for the better all of a sudden? I could use some inspiration.. (could it be because I am turning 30 this week )

Re: Turnarounds in life...
honestly- when i left my old job. I knew i was unhappy there, but i didnt realize how completely miserable i was until i left. Looking back, its like a big blur- it wasnt me or anything like the rest of my life- i basically write off that that year ever even existed.
i really can't imagine how anyone can let themselves be that unhappy- or that i let it happen without acting sooner. But, change doesnt just happen- you have to make it happen.

Re: Turnarounds in life...
Have you ever watched "The Secret"? My mom was going through some really discouraging times recently and I convinced her to watch it.
The next day literally things started turning around for her. Sometimes we just go through the motions but I beleive that you have to be in the right mental state to be able to see an accept happiness and opportunity. I just love the secret. DH and I watch it when we need an attitude adjustment or feel like we are slipping into a funk.

Ending a very very bad relationship. Around that time I met my current boyfriend and I could not be any happier with my life. So I guess bad things do happen for a reason.
PS -Happy early birthday!

Re: Turnarounds in life...
Being fired from a job in NYC that I hated anyway.....Realized that this is not what I want to be doing. It was also a blessing that I was fired 3 weeks before 9/11 so I was not in NYC on that day.

Re: Turnarounds in life...
first of all... HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY
30 isn't as bad as you might think.
i was about 8 months pregnant and in an abusive marriage. he raised his hand ONE MORE TIME and i was out. no job, no money, no roof over my head. only the clothes on my back and a pair of big black sunglasses and i walked away. i was as scared as can be.
i am happy to say that, with time, i have a happy healthy son (WHO LOVES HIS MOMMY), i have re-married, i own my own house, i'm going back to school... the best part was when i encountered my ex. he looked WONDERFUL and i felt horrible that he looked so good. i assumed good=happy.
no need for me to take joy in someone's unhappiness, but let me just say... he is no where as "together" as i am.
sorry this was kind of long, but it's been the biggest u-turn in my life.
hope you feel better about your up-coming birthday.

Re: Turnarounds in life...
Yup. I've found that taking the plunge and doing things in your life that are SO scary always turn out for the best.
For me, the turnarounds occured when I took the plunge, quit my high paying job in HR and went back to law school. Then, ending a 5 year borderline emotionally abusive relationship (met hubby 5 months later). And, most recently, leaving the firm I was working for to take a government position.
Scary stuff, but in the end, those are the risks worth taking because the return is tenfold.

Beth, I never knew you were in HR!
Someone above mentioned "The Secret" - my mom was telling me I should check it out too. I just may do that!
Thank you for sharing

Re: Turnarounds in life...
Things never turned around on their own for me. It was always me getting tired enough of a situation to change it on my own.
-Leaving a relationship of 2 years -Taking a break from a relationship when it needed it. - Looking for a new job when I was sick of complaining
and most recently
- Joining Weight Watchers & sticking to it because I was tired of being miserable about my weight.

Yes when I met my husband. I dont want to go into too many details but I had just experienced and was in the mdidle of a bad time , and he was like my knight in shining armor and I sometimes wonder how my life might have turned out if I hadnt met him At that EXACT moment in my life.
My life changed so much from that moment on....

Things turned for the better when I became pregnant months after a scare with a huge cyst on my ovary---the possibility that I would never have a baby intensified the moment I actually became preggo

When I left my ex-husband I was 29 and didn't want to turn 30 unhappy...it was the best thing I ever did. I gained so much confidence, independence and security by walking away from that marriage.
