What do you do about somebody that INSISTS upon paying...
everytime you go out to dinner with them. at least once a month DH and i go out to dinner with SIL her FH and the FH insists upon paying every single time. we try to grab the check when it hits the table but he literally swipes it away from DH and says "dont insult me". but i'm starting to feel insulted cause i feel like he thinks we dont have money to pay for it or something.
do we keep letting him pay????

My friend does that! After a year of arguing with her I have decided to just let her pay aka charge it to her DH. That was 12 years ago...she still inisists on paying.

We had friends like this.
You go to the bathroom at some point during dinner & grab your waiter. You pay for it then.
Either at the end of the meal, it's not an issue.

After you order, go to the bathroom, give the waiter your credit card, and tell the waiter YOU are paying.
This will give them the hint, hopefully, that you are serious about either splitting the bill or alternating....

next time this happens tell them that a relationship is a two way street and it makes you feel good to pick up the check every now and then. There is no need for you guys to treat us every time. Please allow us to pick up this check and be an equal part of our relationship.

if they insist then let them pay-
what I would do is walk over to the bar and buy a round of drinks for the table then, or a bottle of wine/champagne. If they dont drink give the waiter your CC before hand.

I always pay when we go out... or try to. I HATE the awkward 'trying to figure out the bill ' part of the night. So I eliminate it by paying.
If you REALLY want to pay - i agree with the other posters - nab the waiter and hit 'em up

I agree, I've had to be crafty at times. I have even given my card before the meal as we were sitting down.

i have told them that we're gonna pay on numerous occasions. before every meal i say "ok, this time WE'RE paying" but still he grabs the check out of DH's hand and goes thru the whole "dont insult me" bit again.
i guess he's trying to impress his FBIL but DH just thinks he's dumb for feeling the need to show off all the time. i guess next time we go out i'll have to try giving the waiter our credit card before we even order.
