Re: constipation

You can take fiber con. I went through this for about 6-8 weeks in my first trimester. I feel your pain! Prunes were my friend too! Chat Icon

Re: constipation

Ask your Dr if you can take Colace, it's a stool softener. Also, if your prenatal vitamens don't have a stool softener in them see if your Dr can prescribe you one that does. Eat lots of fiber.

Re: constipation

i'm actually on a prescription laxative bc mine was so bad but you can try fiber one cereal (it does have aspartame though in case you're avoiding that - my doctor said one bowl a day is fine) as well as colace (my doctor said take it at night right before bed). i also need decaf coffee to make it happen (this is all in addition to my prescription) Chat Icon

Re: constipation

I went thru this the first trimester.

I used Fiber One and ate raisin bran and fiber granola bars.

Anything made by Metamucil is safe.

Re: constipation

Between being on Iron pills and 1000 mg of calcium I also deal with this.
I take Colace 2X a day( dr said up to 3 wwas ok for me)

Also, I find eating watermelon and kiwis helps do the trick.

Re: constipation

First, I'm sorry. I went through this in the 1st trimester too, and I think it was worse than the nausea. So uncomfortable!

Ask your doctor about colace or Metamucil. Mine okayed Metamucil, and I used it once and it seemed to clear up the problem.

Also, drinking lots of water, eating high-fiber foods, and getting exercise is supposed to help too. I increased my water consumption and exercise around that time, and maybe that helped also. People kept telling me to eat dried fruit, but I felt like I was ODing on prunes, and they didn't seem to help.

Plum juice, prunes, high fiber cereal for breakfast, kiwis, peaches, these all helped me.

Re: constipation

I've taken 2 colace every night since like week 10. Also, the metamucil or citrucel drinks work like a dream if you drink one every day...and lots of water.

Re: constipation

I feel your pain.... for me it came at about 32 weeks and hasnt gone away... so my regimint to combat is:

1 Activia in the morning.... with All Bran mixed into it, followed by 7-8 prunes........

Good Luck....

Re: constipation

I've had the same problem on an off.

Drink lots of water, eat salad and fruit, and lots of fiber but don't add to much until you get things going. Go for walks.

Ask your Dr. about Colace, it's helped me tremendously.

Other things that have worked:
prune juice - but I HATE it
apple juice

I'm eating about 4-6 Metamucil wafers a day and usually that's enough. It's awful! Chat Icon
