I worry about my taxes
I am worried in a sense about my taxes. This year when I got my tax bill it went up about $550. Nothing new is being done so this is just taxes going up. And every year it is going up about that amount on mine. Now at this rate, I fear it will become outrageous one day. I don't have a hard time paying my bills right now at all but what happens if taxes do keep going up, and food goes up, and blah blah too one day I won't be able to afford it unless I change my lifestyle (meaning extra job). Because I don't know about everyone else but my husband's pay does not increase every year as much as cost of living. Taxes, food, utilities, clothing, you name it. So at this current rate, I will one day be living very meagerly and then finally be homeless.

We have the same fear. We have owned our home for less than a month and just found out that the taxes have gone up almost $2k, which wasn't in our budget at all. I have come to find that things have a way of working out.....just hope that holds true!

I worry about that, too. Taxes are ridiculous! We don't struggle at all right now but I keep thinking if taxes keep going up at this rate, plus food, plus gas, etc. What's going to happen to people?

I think everybody has this problem. Our raises don't equal the cost of living but somehow we manage.
I wouldn't worry about it that much because you don't know what the future will bring. Some of our bills (Lipa and Oil) have gone down over the years so that has helped us out.

we started looking into homes in LI.. but due to the high taxes.. we realized that this was something we didn't want to do.. so we looked into other areas where the taxes won't kill us.. so we're really liking Rockland County. hopefully it all goes well and we find something before 11/07

I don't actually worry about them, but I am concerned for all of middle class LI.
I understand why there are so many illegal accessory apartments & I think there will be more & more. Homeowners need a way to generate extra money because 90% of people I know don't get salary increases that match the increased cost of living.
We started the greivance process & 08 will be our full first year with Star, so hopefully that will give us some temporary relief.

We have the same issue. Our taxes went up about $1000 for the year and they are going to go up again next year since the school budget passed.

That stinks. We were lucky that our school taxes are not going up. It's about time!

I have the same concerns. It makes me question my choice of buying on LI all the time. Especially since I am still searching for a teaching job. But whatever will be will be, it is not in our control  It is outrageous.

yea this is what my back-up plan is...i am getting a renter. i really don't want to but this is definitely one plan if it comes down to it.
i fear even doing work to my house worrying about huge tax increases....

I know my taxes will one day be off the charts.. right now they are $10,000... so me and DH are gonna give it a few years and if the sh!t hits the fan here in NY with prices and taxes (like i'm sure it will) , we are packing up and heading out. Family or no family... i believe life wasnt meant to be lived struggling and working 12 jobs to make ends meet.
