Anyone Anemic?
I just found out today that I am anemic. My dr said it was common in pregnancy.
She advised me not to take an iron supplement.
What foods do you eat to help raise your iron? I know spinach (but i dont like spinach) - and red meat...what else?

I take a supplement everyday (in addition to my prenatals) and it brought me from being anemic to being just a smidge over the line and only borderline anemic.
I've tried very hard to add red meat to my diet at least twice a week. It's difficult as we really aren't red meat eaters.
I eat spinach - but I like it. Also Shrimp, beans, other veggies and enriched breakfast cereal. But basically the best way to get it is through meat from what I've read, not vegetable. It's two different types of iron.
I also try to cook some things in a cast iron pan.
I've read that vitamin C helps in the absorption so I try to take my supplement with some type of vitamin C rich snack.
I've read that certain things can inhibit the absorption like calcium so I try not to take it with milk or cheese.

I was slightly anemic before becoming pregnant and was told after bloodwork was done for the glucose test to start taking an iron supplement in addition to my prenatal vitamins. I take the prenatal everyday but the supplement maybe every other day and I've been trying to eat more red meat so if I eat red meat then I don't take the supplement.

Yes- and Dr. has me taking a supplement and eating foods high in protien.
