Does anyone go to a nutritionist?
I am thinking about going to a nuttitionist to help me with a good diet while be pregnant. Prior to pregnancy I had lost a ton of weight on weight watchers and lately I am just so depressed about putting some of the weight back on. I dont eat bad now but I find it hard to follow weight watchers and eat healthy for the baby. I used a lot of fat free / splenda foods while on WW. I am wondering if a nutritionist is worth it. My OB says I am right on target with weight gain but part of me feels like I worked sooooooooooo hard to lose all that weight and now slowly but surley it is coming back on. I am only 18 weeks and have a while to go so that makes me even more nervous.

Hey Deb, it's me I finally joined LIF. Don't worry you will be just fine. I saw you 3 weeks ago and you looked great!!! If you want to get feedback from a professional just go for a consultation.

Re: Does anyone go to a nutritionist?
i don't think going to a nutritionist would hurt at all.
i haven't seen one, but i've been using this general guideline for myself. haven't done weight watchers in a while, but if i remember correctly, 1 point = approximately 50 calories. so...
2nd trimester you need about 350 extra calories a day, so about 7 weight watchers points
3rd trimester you need about 450-500 extra calories a day, so about 9-10 weight watchers points.
i got those calorie numbers from a few different sources, including the latest issue of fit pregnancy magazine (great article in there about nutrition stuff!). i ran them by my doctor and she said they're about right, as long as your extra calories come from nutritious food.

Great info, thanks. I am going to get the magazine after work now. Maybe it will make me feel better and help me understand more.

Re: Does anyone go to a nutritionist?
I am in your exact position. I lost alot of weight before except I started to gain before I got pregnant. I can't do the splenda anymore and while the doc says "I'm fine", I hate watching that scale.
I would be interested in hearing what a nutritionist has to say also. Good luck!

aw,
I think seeing a nutritionist is a good idea, pregnant or not. I lost 33lbs by doing so 13yrs ago. She totally taught me how to eat right and I've kept it off. Granted, I was young, overweight and I didn't know how to eat right due to my age at the time (16) but still...I found it so helpful and its stuck with me all this time.

It is important to make good food choices and to make sure that you are eating foods that support the baby's growth. "Diets" are not great while PG, but finding a good balance of foods that will help you feel good and will help the growth of your baby is a great idea.
I think it is ALWAYS a good idea to seek the advice of a nutritionist, no matter what your weight, since food is the best way to keep your body healthy

Re: Does anyone go to a nutritionist?
I went to a nutritionist. While it WAS helpful, most insurances don't cover it, so it got really expensive. I still gained a ton of weight that I am struggling to get off now.
Just make healthy choices. Lots of veggies. Definately keep a food journal. Watch your portion sizes. Eat 4 or 5 small meals a day. Basically, just follow your WW diet, just make sure you eat enough. So you may need to add a meal or a snack. Eat lots of fruit, particularly blueberries, grapes, oranges, things like that.
