Have you ever RSVPd no for something
when you don't have other plans but just don't feel like going?
I've done this a few times recently and really want to say no again for an upcoming shower but feel SO guilty about it. I do plan on sending a gift.
Please tell me it's "okay to say no"! I know I will have a miserable time and my presence will not be missed.

It's okay to say no!!
I wouldn't tell the people that you have nothing else to do because they may feel insulted, but you're not obligated to accept every invitation you receive just because you don't have other plans.

I have and I don't feel guilty about it. Sometimes you need to take your life back or there is forever some thing/obligation every weekend. Besides, you always have something to do like spend the day with your DH.

Plenty of times! And I don't feel guilty. Lifes too short to be stuck doing things you just don't want to do.

Re: Have you ever RSVPd no for something
I just did to my cousins 21 bday party. A) I dont want to drive all the way up there (only 2hrs but still) B) I am mad at her mother for something negative she said about my brother and his marriage. C) I would rather sit home on my comfortable couch and relax, without getting yelled at for smoking OUTSIDE!!!.
I made up an excuse that I had a bridal shower which was actually this past wekend, so it wasnt a complete lie.

Yes. I do that especially when the guest of honor is someone that I don't hear from anymore. I don't exist for the sole purpose of giving gifts at events.

Ditto!!! You are not obligated to attend every event that you are invited to - especially if you are not close to the person.
We have been invited to a ton of events this year and if we attended them all and gave gifts I have sent a few baby shower gifts after the fact though since I really did want to give a gift and just could not attend.
You also are entitled to just veg out on your couch instead of attending

Re: Have you ever RSVPd no for something
I need to start saying no more and yes, in the past I have and I don't regret it. I don't have a ton of money for one thing and I also like my weekends. I work too hard to have them sucked up by others.

Re: Have you ever RSVPd no for something
yup! i just did last night! all of the people in my department at work were getting together for an end of school year dinner ( i work in a school). when they planned it, i originally said "yes", but yesterday i didn't feel like going ( plus i can't stand that they split the bill equally instead of just paying for what you ordered- last time i ended up paying like $25 for a couple raviloi!!) so i sent out an e-mail with an excuse luckily i have a good one- we just sold our house, so i said i had to meet with the realtor. sometimes, you just have to say no...

I go to everything possible. Only time I miss something is if I have prior engagements. I'm no help, but I feel like what comes around goes around.

Re: Have you ever RSVPd no for something
I did once...but I did still send a gift. I knew that I wouldn't know anyone and I would much rather spend the day with my family then attend that party.
