Re: Some Doctors...
Maybe it is time for a new doctor. When you do start to ttc you want a doctor that you feel comfortable with and that is on the same side as you. I can't go on the pill and my gyn said that FAM will work as long as I am committed to it. And it worked just fine till we were ready for a family.

I am going to play devils advocate here... do not shoot me LOL
But...
She is probably saying that "it does not work" because people have "oops" babies all the time. Anything can happen, so she is probably just trying to be responsible and letting you know that there is a slight chance that you will become pregnant even using natural family planning.
That said, she SHOULD have been more professional about it.

Honestly, I can't see many "oops" babies happening when this method is done correctly. If you are using all the steps (charting, checking CM) you know when you are fertile. To be sure, you add a couple of days on each end to be extra careful.
"Oops" pregnancies happen from pulling & praying, or temping sporadically. I think this method is VERY different (not to say it's 100% but to me, when done properly, works very well). Artifical forms like BCP are not 100% - so there's always a risk.
I agree in that you should consider switching doctors now - someone that respects your choices.

Re: Some Doctors...
As someone who had an oops pg while charting for Birth control....well that's another story..
I think most docs are unfamiliar with FAM/charting and they will push the more "proven" method.
I think it might be time to find a new doc who respects what your decisions are before you TTC, cause if you guys don't see eye to eye now, who knows how much aggravation you'll have when you do start TTC and/or get pg.

Re: Some Doctors...
I would definately get a new doctor. I can see her warning you that it may not be 100%, but like you said- no BC is!! I hated being on the BCP, there is no reason to mess with your body like that. FAM should work fine as long as you know what your body is doing. After we get PG (hopefully soon!!) I will use FAM as BC as well. I don't think I would mind and oops baby, but being that it's going on 6 months BD in the fertile times I kinda doubt that would happen!!
