Speaking of other languages...

have you ever learned a language later in life? I'm trying to do it in baby steps.

Also, has anyone tried Rosetta Stone?

Re: Speaking of other languages...

I really want to and have been contemplating getting the Rosetta Stone software. DH makes me nuts because he picks up languages so easily but I think it may be because he learned English as an adult.

Re: Speaking of other languages...

I cant say I learned another language, but I was exposed to Armenian later in life (met my hubby at 19) and can speak a few sentences Chat Icon
and can get the jist of how words are put together (if that makes sense)..

Im intrigued by languages and would love to learn more.. Chat Icon

In addition to growing up as first generation ITalian American,
Spanish and greek I was exposed to very early on in my neighborhood growing up, so I know them very well.
Spanish - fluent, Greek, Id say pretty well, but not even close to remotely fluent.

I am learning Cantonese because my DH is Chinese and his mother speaks limited english. I have been using Pimsleur's language programs. It is awesome.

Re: Speaking of other languages...

well- I took Spanish all through HS but stopped in college because I didn't "have" to- my HS course counted for college credits-
I met my DH who was born in Ecuador and his first language is Spanish- his family speaks English- but at home, mostly Spanish- I have been with DH now for 7 years and I understand a lot of what they are saying but can not answer in Spanish... I try and learn but it is very difficultChat Icon

Re: Speaking of other languages...

My family speaks mostly russian. DH has the Rosseta Stone software and really like it. He says he understands a lot of what they say, but it's had for him to speak. I think it might be easier if I started helping him.

I have been trying to learn Spainish since I met my DH. I took some classes but for me languages come very difficult. I find calculus easier. Chat Icon
