i can't believe my gardener did this
Long story short, I hired a gardener to do lawn maintence and a spring cleanup. This included hauling a pile of wood away, which they estimated at $150 (for the wood only.) I said okay. I just got the bill and they charged $300 for the bill so I called them. I very politely reviewed the invoice with them, when I was told that they'd never quote me that low. I said I never would've gone along with $300 and reminded him that I had even called to confirm the price (not to mention that I have it in writing) and the whole time he said $150. He also didn't show up two times when he said he would and I mentioned that I was disappointed but they did a great job. So he says 'I'll send you a new bill for $150 and then we should part ways." I can't believe he did that!!!! Vent over.

That's pretty low of him, but at least he lowered the bill to the original agreement.

I bet he has done it before. Some people would just pay it, rather than fight over that money. WHat a creep.

Re: i can't believe my gardener did this
If you have it in writing, there is nothing he can do. He can't change the terms of the contract. I would just send a check with paid-in-full written on the front and on the back where he needs to endorse it along with a copy of the written estimate. He doesn't need to send a new bill. If he does, make sure you read it carefully, just in case he tries to slip something in.

Wow...that's pretty underhanded. Especially since he gave you a written quote.
