Infected Pierced ears - anyone ever repierce theirs?

I first had my ears pierced when I was about 8 and was told to only wear 14 kt or better. Well, being that young and then the 80's hit, I wore whatever was fashionable at the time (you all remember the feather earrings right?)
I then had second and third holes added in my late teens.

Well, my ears finally had enough about 12 years ago and I could no longer wear anything (even though I was at that point wearing appropriate earrings). They started bleeding and it was just too painful to put anything in.

I tried repiercing about 10 years ago and my ears swelled up and again got infected. I miss wearing earrings which is the only jewelry I ever enjoyed. DH would love to try and get my ears repierced as a gift for me but I have no idea if I should see a doctor about this or go to a reputable jeweler to check.

Has anyone ever dealt with infected ears? A jeweler mentioned to me that maybe the fleshy part of my ear could be attempted again?

I had the cartlidge of my ear pierced and loved having it, but it did get infected. I was in denial about it. Oh did my ear hurt and all I did was put neosporian with pain reliever on it. Until one day while I was towel drying my hair, the hoop I had in there got caught on the towel and out the earing came. I never saw so much blood come out of a little hole. I did everything I could to clean it all out. The hole closed up and I really do want to get it repierced just been too scared.

If I do decide to get it repierced I'll most likely go back to a reputable jeweler.

My aunt who had always wore big dangly earings she tore her lobes open. She had to have cosmetic surgery to fix her earlobes. Because of everything she had a doctor pierce her ears. Ever since she has had no problems and has been enjoying wearing her big dangly earings.

I got my ears pierced at 9 & had to let them close a couple of years later. I got them repierced at a jeweler a few years after that and have had no problems since. I'd go to a jeweler before a doctor. I know it sounds crazy, but they have more experience.

My friend had this happen to her. She wound up going to a reputable piercing place, where they pierced her ear with a needle and not a gun. She's had no problems since.

Yup, same story with me. But with a happy ending.

Got them pierced at 13, didn't do the right thing, infected/closed up. Tried again a year later, same deal.

I could feel the bumps where they used to be all these years so when it came time to get married, I was worried.

I had them pierced a year ago, this time with stainless steel, sterile posts. I only turned them when my hands were freshly washed, which was about four or five times daily. Cleaned them every morning and night with peroxide and clean cotton balls. I literally doused my earlobes with the stuff just to be sure.

I kept the posts in a few weeks longer than necessary with the same routine. Still a year later, if I don't wear earrings for a week, the left lobe almost closes up on me where I have to poke the earring through. I guess it's just resistant to foreign objects!

Just take double the precaution, do it right, and your odds will be better. Good luck with it!

I had this when I was younger...My earring was embedded in my ear It was really infected but eventually my ears got better

had my ears pierced at 5 yrs old...I threw up every time my mother tried to turn them...I still get sick if someone else touches my ears. We had to take the earings out because they got infected.

I repierced them when I was 9 and had to no problems because I was old enough to take care of them myself
But I can not weat fake earings at all...my ears get all red and puffy.

I never had any problems - my Mom had them done for my baptism at 1.5 months old, and they've been pierced since. And the little tiny diamond studs looked ADORABLE in pics

If i can make a different suggestion. Instead of going to a Jeweler, try a Body Piercer. I'll explain why... When they use the "Gun" it cause alot of trauma on your lobe. A Piercer will use a needle . It hurts less, and heals faster. And a body Piercer has a lot more experience than a Jeweler. You can go to Utopia in Hicksville (Ben is great).

My situation makes no sense.

I have three holes in one ear and four holes in the other (done at ages 9, 14 and 19). I haven't worn earrings in holes 2-4, in either ear, in at least 12 years. Even so, over the past year, holes 2-4 have had pus coming out of them from time to time.

I avoid wearing earrings unless it's for a special event or important meeting.

I'd ask your doctor first -- an infection is an infection.
