Wow. What a sad story . First off, many for your friend for a speedy recovery. I would give them both a small sentimental gift for them now. After the "big wedding" then you can give them something bigger.

If she just got married, I would give her the big gift now - in honor of her marriage. If they end up still going through with the big-party in November, you could always give her a smaller registry gift, picture frame, etc.
